🔬 This is Toronto ’s first dedicated health and life sciences lab infrastructure in over two decades!

Join the ASHRAE Toronto Chapter and Sustainable Labs Canada for our November dinner meeting on November 2, when the project team bringing Catalyst at 77 Wade Avenue alive will showcase this brand-new laboratory building in the hashtag Junction neighbourhood designed to continually evolve alongside changing research, technologies, and users.

Cary Solomon (Owner), Jay Levine (Architect), and Robert Mariani, P. Eng. (Engineer), each with their own extensive portfolio in real estate management and project development of specialized, high-performance. And innovative life science infrastructure across Canada, had a shared vision: to create a purpose-built platform for science and innovation, with high-performing, resilience, and reliable building systems, and a workspace that fosters collaboration for Toronto’s vibrant life science landscape. Together, they will walk through the delivery of this research development that aims to serve Canadian scientific discovery for generations to come.

The ASHRAE Toronto Chapter is sponsoring TWO students to attend the 2027 ASHRAE Winter Conference, January 23–27, 2027, and its dedicated student program. Connect with industry professionals, meet fellow students, and discover new ways to get involved in ASHRAE.

✈️ Sponsorship includes reimbursement of flight and accommodation expenses for the two selected students.

Who can apply?
• Student members of both ASHRAE Society and the Toronto Chapter.
• Applicants will be assessed on their ASHRAE involvement and interest in the industry.
• Applicants must meet U.S. visa requirements and demonstrate their ability to travel.

Join the ASHRAE Toronto Chapter, together with Toronto Hydro, Toronto 2030 District, and HRAI for the FREE Heat Pump Fundamentals training series, available in both virtual and in-person formats! Now in its fifth edition, this series continues to support the mid-tier commercial building sector (B- and C-Class) by building knowledge on the electrification and decarbonization of heating systems.

You will learn about:
- Benefits of electrifying heating systems
- Applications of heat pump technology for mid-tier commercial buildings
- Managing HVAC energy usage effectively to reduce Scope 1 GHG emissions

Join the ASHRAE Toronto Chapter for an online course on November 12, which covers the design and operation of data centers for the rapid pace of innovation brought on by artificial intelligence, and achieving maximum performance without over investment or premature obsolescence. (This course is also eligible for three professional development hours.)

Dr. Dustin Demetriou, the Vice Chair of the ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9 (TC 9.9) IT Subcommittee, co-author of multiple books in the ASHRAE Datacom series, and a Senior Technical Staff Member for IBM Infrastructure, will examine data center best practices by focusing on ASHRAE’s evolving thermal guidelines for data processing environments, including the latest guidance around liquid cooling, all the while considering data integrity and facility uptime.

🔋Did you know that there’s a thermal battery under UofT’s Front Campus? 🔋

Join the ASHRAE Toronto Chapter for a tour of Canada's largest urban geoexchange field! On September 24, we will visit the newly completed Landmark Project at UofT’s King’s College Circle, including the geoexchange system mechanical room, EV infrastructure, and other sustainable initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the St. George campus.

At 250 metres underground, this geoexchange system stores heat in Toronto’s bedrock, which is then recovered in the Winter to heat campus buildings and reduce GHG emissions by up to 17,000 tonnes annually.

Scott Hendershot, P.Eng., SEA, Senior Manager at UofT’s Sustainability Office, who has more than 30 years of diverse private-sector experience, will also be sharing key design challenges, lessons learned, and insights gained throughout the groundbreaking project.

ASHRAE Toronto Chapter was proud to participate in the 2026 ASHRAE Region II Chapters Regional Conference (CRC), held August 28–30, 2026, in beautiful Prince Edward Island, and hosted by the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Chapters! 🍁

CRC brought together ASHRAE members and leaders from across Region II for a few memorable days of learning, collaboration, networking, and sharing ideas. It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow chapters, exchange experiences and best practices, and bring back new ideas to strengthen our Chapter in the year ahead.
