Our Story
Established in 2006 by Evergreen in partnership with the local community, the Emmett Avenue Garden is the only community space for food growing in Eglinton Flats park at the intersection of Eglinton Ave West-Jane St in Weston-Mount Dennis, located on Emmett Avenue. The Emmett Avenue Communal Garden is a cooperative venture between Social Planning Toronto, the Emmett Communal Garden volunteers, and the Emmett Communal Garden committee, and the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department. The Emmett communal Gardens is a collectively shared space for the garden members on behalf of the community. It will be used for sustainable food production. Moving away from ownership of individual plots, we will grow food over the whole garden and distribute it to low income families, seniors and community members.
