Did you know that in Ontario, you generally need special authorization from the Ministry of Natural Resources to collect, raise, or release monarch butterflies, as they are a protected species? However, the law allows individuals to keep one monarch caterpillar or butterfly at a time for personal educational purposes, such as watching it develop before releasing it.

FYI the best way to help monarchs is by planting native milkw**d and nectar plants like Joe Pye w**d, as habitat loss is one of the primary threats to monarch populations. We encourage our followers to grow native plants that support monarchs and other native butterflies, allowing them to complete their life cycle naturally outdoors.
