The International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief is observed annually on August 22 to honour individuals and communities who have been victims of violence based on their religion or beliefs.

The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2019 to recognize the ongoing violence, intolerance, and discrimination experienced by religious communities and minorities around the world. It also emphasizes the importance of protecting freedom of religion or belief as a fundamental human right.

August 19th is World Humanitarian Day ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“ฆโค๏ธ

World Humanitarian Day is observed annually on August 19 to honour the humanitarian workers and volunteers who provide life-saving assistance to people affected by conflict, disasters, and displacement. The day aims to raise awareness about welfare, rights and the safety of people impacted by humanitarian emergencies.

World Humanitarian Day has been historically used to honour humanitarian workers who have lost their lives while serving others and to advocate for the protection of humanitarian personnel.

New episode out now! ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

In todayโ€™s episode of DCO Discourse, weโ€™re celebrating Youth Empowering Youth Day by speaking with Abigail Lee, a soon-to-be Grade 12 student and the founder of The Peer Power Project, a youth-led non-profit supporting local communities for over two years.

Abigail shares what inspired her passion for giving back, the importance of connection and community, and the resilience she sees in young people today. We also learn more about The Peer Power Project and the many initiatives its youth team has led, from senior social events and community donation drives to volunteer service projects.

Itโ€™s a great conversation about youth leadership, peer support, community, and the power of young people to make a difference. ๐Ÿ’™

Remember, everyoneโ€™s daily life looks different, so listen to your mind and body and do what feels best for you. ๐Ÿค

No matter what you do today, we hope you take the time to slow down, be mindful, disconnect from your worries, appreciate the day, and give yourself time to rest and relax. Even if that means taking just a few minutes to focus on your breathing or doing some quick stretching, making time and peace for yourself.โœจ

August 12th is International Youth Day which honours young people around the world. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

The day also brings attention to the distinctive issues, challenges, and opportunities that shape the lives of youth. The United Nations first established International Youth Day in 1999, with the initial observation taking place in 2000.

International Youth Day encourages governments, organizations, and communities to consider these differences while working toward more inclusive opportunities for youth. It is also an opportunity to recognize the ongoing contributions and work done through volunteering, advocacy, community initiatives, leadership, and activism.
