To our incredible Reception House team โ€” thank you for showing up with compassion, creativity and purpose every day.

This work changes lives. And it starts with you. ๐Ÿ’™

David Johnston often spoke about the tradition of a barn raising, where neighbours come together to build something that no one could accomplish alone.

That's exactly what World in a Cup felt like.
A gathering of people, organizations, volunteers, sponsors, and community champions united by a shared belief that everyone belongs.

Thank you to everyone who helped raise this "barn" with us. Your support is helping create a more welcoming and inclusive community for refugees and newcomers across Waterloo Region. ๐ŸŒŽโค๏ธ

What an honor to meet virtually with Catherine Fife , MPP for Waterloo, to discuss the impact of the Home Begins Here transitional housing project.

Catherine shared these inspiring words:

"Home Begins Here, is a transitional housing project that is about our community coming together to truly welcome newcomers and refugees. By providing them a safe place to land, they have the stability to start building their lives, make contributions to our local economy, strengthen our workforce, and enrich the community that we all share. It's the right thing to do."

We couldn't agree more. When we provide safe and supportive housing, we create opportunities for individuals and families to build brighter futures while strengthening our entire community.
Thank you, Catherine Fife, for your support and commitment to creating a welcoming Waterloo Region for everyone. ๐Ÿ’™

A day to remember at the beach with the KW Francophones community ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ

What began as a small group has grown into a vibrant community of 67 newcomers, not counting children, and we were thrilled to celebrate that growth together.

This gathering was more than just a summer outing, it was a chance to strengthen relationships, share joy and express our appreciation for a community that continues to thrive.

Reception House WR remains committed to supporting their settlement and integration in Canada, every step of the way ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿก Home is more than a place to live. It's where healing begins, communities grow and new opportunities take root.

Mayor Dorothy McCabe said it best:

"Home begins here. Projects like this provide a stronger foundation for people fleeing war and trauma and seeking safety, stability, and opportunity. Access to welcoming, affordable housing gives newcomers a better start to their lives in Canada and Waterloo Region."

We are grateful for the partnerships and community support that help make welcoming, affordable housing possible, ensuring newcomers have the foundation they need to build a bright future in Waterloo Region ๐Ÿ’™

In partnership with Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health, we recently hosted Part 1 of our youth workshop, a session dedicated to building understanding and empathy.

Participants explored diversity and the risks of discrimination, and unpacked how curiosity can sometimes be misinterpreted as xenophobia or racism.

The message that resonated most: our similarities far outweigh our differences. ๐Ÿ’™

Weโ€™re grateful to support opportunities where youth can reflect, connect, and challenge biases.
