If you’re looking for somewhere to take the group that feels relaxed but still special, Privato Vineyard & Winery is worth considering.

Just 20 minutes from downtown Kamloops, the gardens are beautiful and there’s plenty of flexibility in how you use the space. Think reception, tasting, lawn games, updated headshots in the gardens, or simply a few hours for people to unwind and catch up.

Privato also hosts markets and seasonal events throughout the year, so welcoming groups and creating a great experience is already part of what they do.

Last week, Kamloops welcomed the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) Summit to the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre. On October 7-8, delegates from across the region came together for panels, breakout sessions and presentations on economic investment, community-driven sustainability and collaboration.

The Summit opened with a meaningful welcome from members of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc. Thank you for grounding us in place and setting the tone for two days of listening and learning.

Day one wrapped up with the Tourism Kamloops Welcome Reception at the BC Wildlife Park. Delegates enjoyed a private animal encounter, then spent the evening networking with colleagues from across the region.

Some exciting news for Kamloops’ meetings and events sector.

Sc.wén̓wen Economic Development Corp., the economic development arm of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, has engaged CBRE to explore the feasibility of a new hotel and event space on Nation lands.

It’s early days, but the potential for more accommodation and event space is exciting for our region and for the future of hosting meetings, conferences and events in Kamloops. Learn more: https://heyor.ca/jdbALY

Planning meetings and events a few years out? Here’s one to keep on your radar.

Construction is underway on the Kamloops Centre for the Arts in downtown Kamloops, with opening planned for 2029.

The new facility will include a 1,100-seat main theatre, a 450-seat second theatre and a 17,400 sq. ft. lobby designed for gatherings and events. Café and gallery spaces will be open throughout the day, and the facility will also include extensive back-of-house space and 158 underground parking spaces.

For meeting and event planners, it means even more possibilities are coming to Kamloops.

Meet in Kamloops is proud to welcome the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association's Annual AGM & Summit to the Coast Kamloops Hotel on October 7-8.

Tourism professionals from across the region will gather to explore this year's theme, "Confluence & Conscience: Investing in a Sustainable Future," a conversation on sustainable investment, community, and Indigenous tourism collaboration.

When you bring a conference to Kamloops, consider building some time into the agenda to learn about the place you’re gathering in.

Kamloops is located on the ancestral lands of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc. At the Secwépemc Museum & Heritage Park, delegates can learn about Secwépemc history, culture, language, traditions and the community today.

Groups can also pre-book a guided tour of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. This is not a light experience; however, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc made the decision to preserve the former school so its history would not be forgotten and so future generations could continue to learn from what happened there.

For delegates, it is an opportunity to listen and learn about an important part of Canadian history, and to better understand why truth is an essential part of reconciliation.

Outside the Box BC was at MPI’s theEVENT in Vancouver recently, and it was great to connect with planners here on the West Coast.

We also jumped into theEXCHANGE, with four-minute conversations that gave planners a quick way to meet Kamloops, Penticton and Nanaimo all at one table.

And there’s a little extra reason to keep all three destinations in mind: eligible meetings booked across Kamloops, Penticton and Nanaimo within a five-year window may qualify for our multi-destination incentive.
