I want to take a moment to introduce myself here, and explain a little bit about Nova Scotia by Bike and Bike Brigade Halifax — because there is a lot of misunderstandings about what and how I do in community.

These two projects are NOT connected to any organization or any job. I do this in my free time, with a lot of love and care, because I love this community.

Nova Scotia by Bike started in 2022 while I was in college studying photography. It began as a school project — not as a personal account — and slowly it became a way to engage with community through something I always loved: cycling. I’ve been a cyclist for over 30 years, since Brazil. (and now you also get Boo Boo here sometimes… because she is part of my bike story too)

In July 2022, Critical Mass brought a huge wave of connection and visibility. Today other folks are leading and that is powerful… because community work is collective. It does not belong to one person — it belongs to all of us.

Then last year, I started Bike Brigade Halifax because I admired the work Bike Brigade Toronto does — and I wanted to bring that spirit to Halifax. With incredible people, shared motivation, trust and solidarity — it became something real and meaningful here.

Sometimes it’s hard to feel seen for the energy and care I put into community — especially as an immigrant with a different culture and background and it's difficult to connect with people here — but I am proud of this work. And I hope people can recognize and respect it.

About the photo: in 2023 — when I stepped back from Critical Mass and the community surprised me with a cake. Small gestures mean everything.

After three years of organizing cycling events like Critical Mass, Pride Bike Party, and Bicycle Egg Hunt, along with the summer cycling experiences in 2023 and 2024 and the winter cycling experience in 2024, I’m feeling a bit tired.

I’ve decided to shift my focus and put my energy into supporting the community more. I’ll be channeling that energy into the

Having built such a great community here, I’ll continue to use this space to highlight other community-focused events.

PS: Sometimes I’ll share something personal... 🙂

Please follow those great groups ❤

I wasn’t planning to post here since I’ve been focusing in my Brazil and my photography IG (.sp), but this city has completely won me over. So many bikes — every minute, you see someone riding by. Different types of bikes, different ages, and so many reasons for biking: deliveries, school, or just commuting.

I hope this inspires you as much as it has inspired me. Totally in love with this place. 💛

What a great, yet intense year!

This year, I had the chance to work on my cycling experience project again, and it was amazing—especially because I could share the responsibility with .hfx, who helped me so much.

I also managed to consolidate the Bike Brigade Halifax, which was a big milestone for me.

The most important, though it's also causing a lot of anxiety, is that I finally applied for my Permanent Residence. I’m still waiting, and my heart hurts sometimes. It’s a loop of anxiety, sadness, and happiness all at once. Will I get it? Maybe? Maybe not? For both answers, I’ve found myself in tears a few times...

Soon, I’ll be going to Brazil to spend time with my family and friends (who are also my family, since I’ve known them for over 20 years).

One of the things I’ve learned this year is that I didn’t realize how many people care about me. Maybe the feeling of belonging is still a work in progress. Well, getting older and experiencing everything takes more time than I imagined. Building trust, creating relationships... it all takes time. And speaking in English on top of that? It’s like a mental workout.

Anyway, I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the support—whether for my cycling projects and dreams, or for my personal life as well. ❤️

Finally, we finished the booklets—what a blessing!

The booklets are uploaded for everyone to access and can be found at our Linktree!

https://linktr.ee/novascotiabybike

I'm extremely happy to be able to translate them into Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, French, and Ukrainian.

If you notice any misinformation or if a translation is not accurate, especially the Spanish one, please let me know! I will be happy to make updates.

A big thanks to for putting the English booklet together, and a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the translations.

For now, the documents are being shared through Google Drive, but I still hope to create a website with all the booklets and information about our cycling experiences.

I believe that knowledge should be shared and that good programs should be replicated within the community. If you want to lead a cycling experience, let me know—I’d be happy to chat!
