This weekend, HJCC Directors, Fuki, Chihiro, and Carin joined NAJC Eastern Region meeting at Ottawa!
It was great learning opportunity for us to hear what others have been doing in other regions.

From Halifax, we shared how young leaders have been working together and also expanding immigrant/ijusha community network.

Thank you so much for NAJC for organizing this, and we are excited for our next step as an organization 🇯🇵🇨🇦

今週末、ふうき、かりん、ちひろがHJCC代表としてオタワで開催されたNAJCカナダ東部地区の会議に参加させていただきました。

過去に主催したマーケットに加えてHJCCがNGOとしてどのように成長していきたいかをシェアしました。

企画・運営を今回してくださったNAJCとOCJJのスタッフ、そして代表の方々に感謝すると共に、各地域・団体から参加された皆様も貴重な知識・経験をシェアしていただき、とても勉強になりました。
本当にありがとうございます。

これからもハリファックスの日本人/日系カナダ人コミュニティとして人々の繋がりや文化を共有できる場を提供できるよう、まい進します🇯🇵🇨🇦⁡

We are back with another Japanese Market!

Come join us for the 2026 Tanabata Market. We are hosting over 20 local vendors selling Japanese treats and artisanal goodies!

🗓️When: July 5th (Sun), 2026
📍Where: Halifax Brewery Market (1469 Lower Water Street, Halifax, NS)

Post is three slides reading the following information for Food Vendors:

FOR EXEMPT FOODS
Cotton candy, hard candy
Donuts/baked goods without dairy, meat fillings, or toppings
Fresh fruit or vegetables, when sold whole
Coffee and tea, when served with single-service creamers/milk
Popcorn
Popsicles, novelty ice creams — from a commercial source
Pre-packaged shelf-stable foods — from a commercial source, sold in package

FOR NON-EXEMPT FOODS
Details will be written in the confirmation email which will be sent by May 31st.
Temporary Event Food Permit
Food must be made in commercial kitchens
You or one of your team members have to complete a Food Hygiene (Handling) Course.

PLEASE NOTE: The Provincial government has updated regulations about food vendors in April 2026. Contact Department of Environment and Climate Change (NS Gov) directly if you are unsure about your products.

REGULATIONS AT OUR MARKET
All the food products must be pre-made and we recommend you pre-package your products. (We cannot provide hand washing stations provided at this event but contact us if you want to bring your own.) The electricity power (amp) is low at the venue and unreliable. Large appliances will not be allowed. (e.g., espresso machines cannot be used at the venue.) Coolers, Chafing dishes, and Airpots are recommended because of limited power supply. (contact us if you need special accommodations and we will try our best to help) For safety concerns, raw meat and seafood will not be permitted at the event. Vendors MUST update the information about products if there are changes after submitting this application. Organizer’s insurance DOES NOT cover products from vendors. It is recommended to have your own insurance for your products.

Halifax Japanese Culture Collective (HJCC) is currently working on our first ever Strategic Planning, which will guide HJCC's activities for next 3 - 5 years!

2025年も私たちの活動を支えてくださりありがとうございました！

3つのマーケットを開催することができました。また、7月には非営利団体として活動を改めてスタートする形となり、大きな動きがあった2025年となりました。
2026年もマーケットを始め、さらに他のイベントも企画予定です。

日本人・日系コミュニティにより貢献出来るよう精進して参ります。
