The Elmsdale Community Garden is growing fast and we have free produce available for harvest! Look for the "Ready to pick!" signs - beds 9 and 12 have kale, lettuce and radishes. Please help yourself if the produce is ready to pick.

Make sure to leave numbers fed in the booklet. It's in the mailbox on the door of our garden shed. These numbers help us apply for funding and grants to help feed the community. Thank you!

Join us next Wednesday, June 24th from 10 to 11 a.m. for a pop up market at the Shubie RBC Branch (2824 Main St. W in Shubenacadie). Pop up markets are free food giveaways. We will have a variety of fruits and vegetables, grown in our garden and from local farm markets and grocery stores.

Everyone is welcome! Drop by while supplies last, learn about the garden and our other programs and bring home some fresh food for you and your family.

We have some sad news to report - someone has been harvesting plants before they were ready at the Elmsdale Community Garden. We post signs in the garden boxes whether plants are ready to pick or not. We ask everyone to please follow these instructions.

Picking plants early reduces the amount of food available to everyone in the community. This food is also used for some of our freezer meals and programs. If you ever have questions about the plants, do not hesitate to ask. You can message us on Facebook or call our office at 902-883-1608.

On a positive note, we have radishes ready in box #9 (closest to the garden shed). To find a good sized radish, simply look at the base of the plant - if you see red poking out, it should be a good size. Don't know if you like radishes? Try one - you can't beat fresh veggies from our garden.

Don't forget to give us numbers fed and feedback in the garden booklet in the mailbox of the garden shed. Numbers and testimonials help us apply for grants to keep the garden growing.

UPDATE: We are at capacity for this Community Meal. Thank you to everyone that registered!

Join us for a FREE Community Meal on Wednesday, May 13th between from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Elmsdale Legion (850 Highway 2).

This time, we're switching things up with an evening meal with a dine in option. Choose from 3 pre-registered seatings or 4 pick up times for take out. All ages are welcome and donations are greatly appreciated!

Meal options are selected when you arrive at the Elmsdale Legion. Here's a look at what we'll be serving:

Caesar OR Garden Salad
Pulled Pork OR Chicken on a Bun served with Roasted Potatoes
Cookie OR Ice Cream Sandwich

Happy Friday! Next Wednesday, April 29th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Findley Park (55 Findley Road in Hants North), we will be joining Hants North Recreation and Development Association, CMHA: Colchester East Hants Branch, East Hants Community Health Board and Kids Action Program - Hants for a community event.

We will be holding a pop up market with free fresh fruits and veggies while supplies last. There will also be a Story Book Wellness Walk and tables with information about all the other organizations.

Everyone is welcome! Bring your family and learn about programs and services in the area and enjoy the park. Hope you will join us!

We have refilled our Community Freezer with a variety of tasty meals! Thank you to Halifax Stanfield and their Uplifted program for the funding to cook up the following:

- Bangers & Mash
- Cabbage Roll Soup
- Chicken Spanish Rice
- Pizza Noodle Bake
- Taco Cornbread Casserole
- Turkey Enchilada Casserole
- Vegetable Lasagna

These meals are available for anyone in the community that needs them. We restock as often as we can, based on the funding and donations we receive. The freezer is located at our office at 224 Highway 214 in Elmsdale

To arrange for pick up or delivery, please call us at 902-883-1608 during booking hours - Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join us on Wednesday, March 25th starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Elmsdale Legion (850 Highway 2, Elmsdale) for another FREE Community Lunch. This time, we're serving up a Cold Plate, a proud Maritime tradition. Meals will include turkey, ham, potato salad, pasta salad, coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumbers, a roll and a cookie. Thank you to Halifax Stanfield Airport for sponsoring this lunch through their Uplifted program!

This meal is available for drive-thru pick up or delivery. It's first come, first served while supplies last. For pick up, form a line in your vehicle starting at the front door. One of our team will come out and take your order. We'll get it ready as soon as possible.
Don't have access to transportation? The East Hants Community Rider is available for a limited number of deliveries for this meal. Give us a call at 902-883-4716 and we will book you in. Booking deadline is Tuesday, March 24th at 12 noon.
