Peanut's Adoption Story ❤️

This week's is a heartfelt one, sharing the touching story of a recently passed EHS pet in honour of 🌈

It was a particularly busy day at the Edmonton Humane Society in November 2015. Amanda and her partner, Tyler had just recently lost their kitty, Luna, and were ready to welcome another furry family member into their home.

As they walked through the cat gallery, the hall was filled with people looking to do the same. As the couple reached the last room, they spotted a small two-year-old tortoiseshell cat quietly sleeping atop a kuranda — a peaceful moment amid the activity around her.

"The connection was instant. I looked at her and I knew, 'that's the one,'" Amanda remembers. "I pulled her profile sheet and immediately took it to the front desk to start the adoption process."

Peanut spent the next 10 years filling Amanda and Tyler's lives with immense joy. She was a part of every major milestone the couple had — she helped Tyler propose to Amanda, she was there as they welcomed two children into their family, she was a source of support when they purchased their first home and so much more.

No matter what, Peanut was always there. "She was my absolute best friend — my soul cat," Amanda tells us. "I am so forever grateful to her for everything she has given us. For loving my kids, for all of the cuddles at the end of a long day, for sitting with me while I worked and for just being the sweetest, most patient and gentle girl I could have ever asked for."

In April 2026, Peanut peacefully passed over the rainbow bridge, surrounded by the people who cherished her. Her story is a reminder of the large paw print our beloved pets leave on our hearts.

Miko joined Dr. Ted Purcell on Global Edmonton today to showcase the joy pups can bring to our lives!

Miko is a four-year-old, well-mannered, smart and oh-so-sweet lab mix ❤️ He loves fetch and being near his people. He can sometimes be a bit shy, so a home with older children who can respect his boundaries would be the best fit. He's ready to find his new adventure buddy! Is it you?

This research is being conducted to better understand the barriers that may prevent individuals from licensing their pets and to identify opportunities to improve access to pet licensing.

Flossie's Adoption Story ❤️

In January 2023, Marlene didn't have to travel very far to find her perfect match, Flossie (previously Flora). She opened up her email late one day and there she was — a sweet long-haired kitty looking for a fresh start 🐱

"I was in my email reading the EHS Newsletter one Thursday evening and the picture on the front right corner was Flora and her story," Marlene tells us.

After reading Flossie's profile and learning more about how she came into EHS' care, she knew she was the one for her. Three days later, Flossie was home 🏠

"She was very skittish for a long time," Marlene remembers. "I was patient and gentle with her. Now, she likes to sleep with me and we have our evening playtime."

Over time, Flossie has grown into a courageous cat who isn't afraid to ask for all of the love she wants.

"She loves to be brushed and always sits on my lap while watching TV. When I'm in office/on my computer she sits on my desk. I once allowed it and now it's a regular thing," Marlene laughs. "I love her so much" ❤️

A chance meeting brought these two together, and now they are both living their best lives with their purr-fect companion. Thank you to Marlene for giving Flossie a place where she can thrive. We wish this duo many more happy years together! 💞
