Being an HCA is a stable, rewarding career centered entirely on meaningful relationships—providing comfort, companionship, and person-centered care to seniors in our communities.

At the Christian Health Association of Alberta (CHAA), we are proud to have been creating and offering the Health Care Aide Apprenticeship Program. By combining paid work experience with education, we’re helping build sustainable pathways where learners can earn while they learn and grow in a supportive environment.

Safety is woven into every single decision made within a continuing care home — from medication protocols and physical environments to the psychological and emotional well-being of the residents we serve.
Creating a safe space in someone’s home is a profound responsibility. True safety isn’t about restricting life; it’s about balancing security with standard of living — ensuring residents can still garden, enjoy favourite hobbies, participate in recreation, and live with joy, dignity, and autonomy.

This week, CHAA held our 83rd Annual General Meeting. We welcomed Brian Pollard, CEO, Assisted Living Alberta, and Shaun Peddie, Assistant Deputy Minister, Assisted Living and Social Services, for an interactive session with CHAA’s board and membership, focused on the sector and the work ahead.

John Kopeck, outgoing CHAA Board Chair, led our Year in Review, reflecting on the work and progress of the past year. We then looked ahead to 2026-27 with Carla Beck, incoming CHAA Board Chair.

We were pleased to welcome three new member organizations to CHAA: Father Lacombe Care Society, Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre and Eventide Home. We’re excited to have them join our membership and bring their knowledge and experience to our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, participated and continues to contribute to CHAA. We appreciate your ongoing support and commitment to our valuable work.
