Want to win your favorite items without staring at your phone all night? 📱✨

Our online auction is officially LIVE, and we’ve made bidding easier than ever with Zeffy’s Auto-Bid feature!

Here is how to lock in your items in 3 simple steps:
1️⃣ Find the item you love.
2️⃣ Select- Auto-Bid and enter the maximum price you’re willing to pay.
3️⃣ Let the system do the rest! Zeffy will automatically place the lowest possible bid to keep you in the lead—only going up to your limit.

No constant refreshing, no last-second heartbreak. Plus, the anti-sniping protection means if someone bids in the final minutes, the clock extends so you don't get outbid at the buzzer. ⏱️

When we sat down to map out a plan and a playlist for Friday's gala banquet, I expected an evening of humming along to old favourites. That was a year ago! Instead, I found a story I didn't see coming, and I want to share it with you before Friday.

Our music begins in 1955. That's the year rock and roll broke through, and it's also the year Jonas Salk's polio vaccine was declared safe. Many of us grew up with Elvis on the radio and lined up at school for our polio vaccine, never imagining the two belonged to the same story.

Then, right in the middle of our playlist, comes 1985. That summer the world watched Live Aid and saw what music could do for people in need. In that same year, Rotary made its own promise: to end polio everywhere.

Polio even touched the music itself. Neil Young, as a little boy here in Ontario, and Joni Mitchell, at nine years old in Saskatchewan, both survived it.

So The Music of Our Lives, on Friday, October 30, is not just a night of dancing and gyrating (though I hope there will be plenty of both). It's forty years of music and four decades of a Rotary promise, braided together. When you walk through the door, you step into both stories.

Here's where your support goes.

Every ticket supports End Polio Now. Thanks to the Gates Foundation's 2-to-1 match, every dollar we give becomes three.

Polio cases have fallen by 99.9 percent, and the disease now survives in only two countries. We are in the last verse of a very long song, and Chatham-Kent gets to help sing the final note.

The online auction keeps the music playing at home. Every bid supports a local initiative right here in Chatham-Kent. The ticket reaches across the world, and the auction lifts up our own streets: melody and harmony, working together.

I'm asking three things of you this week.

1. If you haven't bought your ticket yet, please do it today - our event page has all the details and how to get your tickets. Or go to: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/cu/MCb0nxx/Gala2026

2. Bring someone with you, ideally someone from another generation, because music is the one language a grandparent and a grandchild both speak.

3. And visit the auction site at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/rotary-club-of-chatham-first-ever-online-auction-for-community-service-projects - before it closes on November 7th, then share the link with friends, family and colleagues.

In a world that often feels divided, a room full of people singing the same chorus is a small act of repair. This time, the song pays it forward.

I'll see you Friday at the John D. Bradley Centre at 5:30 p.m.

What an inspiring and informative by our keynote speaker Elijah Whittal today. Elijah shared his work on the Lake Chad project, working to restore the health of this major water system in four African countries. Absolutely remarkable! Thank you Elijah! And keep up the great work. You’re a wonderful example of Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self. 💙💛
