Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise Rotary is a worldwide network of inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to change lives in communities. What is Rotary? W.

There are 34000 Rotary clubs around the world. We are part of a global network of business, professional and community leaders who volunteer our time & talents to serve communities locally & around the world. Our motto – Service Above Self exemplifies the humanitarian spirit of the 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide. Globally our service efforts are directed toward

• Peace & conflict prevention & resolution

• Disease prevention & treatment

• Water & sanitation

• Maternal & child health

• Literacy

• & economic & community development. WHAT PROJECTS IS CHATHAM SUNRISE ROTARY INVOLVED WITH? Just celebrating our 14th Club anniversary, we are proud of our accomplishments over the years;

- purchase of a van for the YMCA which is used to take children to day camps and other activities. It is also used to transport seniors to special events.

- participated in the construction of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s new hospital and contributed $20,000.00 to furnish the children’s pediatrics’ ward of the same institution.

- a washing machine and toaster for a school breakfast program;

- installing bike racks at non-profit operations in Chatham-Kent

- books for the Chatham-Kent Literary Angels program.

- planted pear trees & daffodils along the south side of Grand Ave. and a mini-Carolinian garden on the Thames Campus of St. Clair College, and also along Grand Ave W.

- clean up the property at the 401 interchange at the Bloomfield Rd.

- in a 5 Year commitment to the YMCA Building campaign for $50,000

- Internationally, we’ve helped in Haiti, India, Ecuador, Africa

HOW DO WE FUNDRAISE?

- Bingos, our annual “Roses for Rotary, Mardi Gras evening.
- Organize the Chatham Ribfest in Tecumseh Park each summer
- an ongoing program to sell flag poles. WHY SHOULD I BE A MEMBER? Our meetings are every Tuesday morning between 7:30 and 8:30am. Many members feel energized after attending our meetings because they enjoy the fellowship, a good breakfast and interesting programs. Our programs help to keep members in touch with what is going on in our community. Many of our projects are of a “hands on” nature so members get the opportunity to get involved. Rotary is a group of committed industry leaders and professional people. We meet because we enjoy the camaraderie & the opportunity to learn about activities within our community & beyond. We have a Vision & make our decisions for better health, for improved literacy & for a better environment within the community, all while conscious of the youth in our community. Rotary promotes ethics in the work place and with everyone they do business with by following;

THE FOUR WAY TEST:

I. IS IT THE TRUTH? II. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? III. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? IV. WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCERNED? While attendance at meetings is important, it is recognized that persons do have to be away for certain reasons. You will always be welcomed at other clubs. The best part of a Rotarian’s membership is the advantages of its networks. And the greatest benefit of membership is the knowledge that by serving together we are building a better world for our children and grandchildren. We publish a weekly “Sunriser” on our web site. Accessible to anyone, you can view our upcoming speakers & events at www.rotarysunrise.com

WHAT IS MY PERSONAL COMMITMENT? While attendance is still a requirement, credit is given for a greater range of activities so it is not a matter of great concern. Visiting other clubs is still strongly encouraged. Attendance credit for that meeting is given by your home club. The attendance requirement is mostly evidence that you are a committed part of the Rotary club and that you fully intend to do your part to support the work of the club. Rotary membership fees and other costs are kept as low as possible. Fees cover the dues of running the club (we have a contracted bookkeeper) and your meals, at $191 per quarter. All requests for money for special purposes are on a voluntary basis. We are looking for more Rotarians! If you feel you can contribute some time and energy to work on the type of heartwarming projects such as outlined above, we are interested in talking to you!

We loved getting to know Susan Debevc a little better through her classification talk this week đź’™

Susan shared stories from her year as a Rotary exchange student in Germany, her time at the University of Guelph, and her postgraduate studies in Regulatory Affairs at Seneca College. She’s now working as a Water Tech at a water plant in Chatham and is especially excited to get involved in some of our environmental projects.

Thank you, Susan, for sharing your journey with us. Rotary is always made stronger by the people and stories around the table, and we’re so happy to have you as part of our club 🌎

It’s been a busy and meaningful few weeks at Rotary.

We were thrilled to welcome new member Susan Debevc, celebrate Pierre Beaumier receiving a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, and hear from Nancy Havens, Manager of Licensing with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, about the many ways bingo funds continue to support important community initiatives.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Rotarians from across the district to Chatham-Kent last weekend for District Conference 2026. A wonderful reminder of the impact Rotary can have when people come together in service, leadership, and community. 💙💛

We are raising money at our Rotary district conference to buy Yamaha motorbikes for seven health centres in Kuntaur, The Gambia. This will extend medical outreach to thousands of Gambians. Ruth and Maureen donated $25 to get their picture taken on the bike.
