Calgary Anti-Racist Action is a revolutionary, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist organisation, committed to opposing far-right nationalism and all discrimination in our community via inclusive grassroots organising. With solidarity and respect, CARA acknowledges that we stand upon the traditional lands of the Blackfoot, Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stony-Nakoda, Morley (which includes Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley), and the Sarcee-Dene of Tsuu T'ina and Eden Vally; also known as the Blackfoot Confederacy. Calgary Anti-Rascist Action honours the Indigenous Peoples' rights to this land through its political organizing against racist hatred and for understanding between cultures.

In a recent APTN News article, Ontario’s coroner team reported locating records of almost 300 additional children whose deaths are not listed on the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation’s Memorial Wall.

The Residential Schools Death Investigation Team, based within Ontario’s Office of the Chief Coroner, works with communities to investigate children’s deaths at Indian Residential Schools.

Mark Mackisoc, the team’s lead investigator, emphasized that the report is “really just the beginning.” The information gives families and communities a starting point to pursue further answers, rather than marking an end to investigations and a move directly to commemoration.

The article also reports that chiefs at the B.C. Assembly of First Nations gathering passed a resolution calling for an extension beyond the September 19, 2027, deadline for destroying records associated with the Independent Assessment Process. The resolution seeks to protect information relevant to missing and disappeared children while respecting Survivor choice.

For the Survivors’ Secretariat, protecting IRS records, Survivor testimonies and continuing investigations remain essential to the work of Bringing the Children Home. Survivors, their families, and communities deserve answers, and this work must continue.

PROTEST: Stand with Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega | Reject Institutional Censorship

Join us this Saturday as we rally outside Calgary Opera’s closing night of Tosca to demand accountability and stand in solidarity with bass-baritone Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega.

Gabriel played Angelotti, an escaped political prisoner, and was removed from the production after holding up a Palestinian flag during opening night curtain call.

Opera has always mirrored political reality. Tosca itself is about state repression and resistance. For an artist playing a political prisoner to raise a flag for people enduring blockade, displacement, and mass atrocities isn’t a disruption of the art, it is the exact truth-telling opera was built for.

If an opera about state tyranny leaves no room for an artist acknowledging real-time human suffering, that says everything about the institution and nothing about the artist.

Cultural institutions cannot stage stories of resistance while punishing artists for practicing it.

Donor censorship. Institutional cowardice. We will not stay silent.
