Pakistan Canada Association Calgary Stands in Solidarity with Sikh Community Amid Rise in Racially Motivated Attacks
In a powerful show of interfaith and intercultural unity, a delegation from the Pakistan Canada Association (PCA) Calgary visited the Gurdwara Dashmesh Culture Centre in Northeast Calgary on Friday evening to express solidarity with the Sikh community following a troubling series of racially motivated attacks against Sikhs across Alberta.
The PCA Calgary delegation was led by President Ch. Azhar Hunjra, and General Secretary Noman Mushtaq Director of Youth and Sports Mohammad Naseem, and Director of Social Affairs Waseem Ahmad. While prominent Pakistani community leaders, Haji Khurshid Alam Sandhu and Lala Arif Warraich were also present on the occasion.They were welcomed warmly by leadership at the Dashmesh Culture Centre for what became an extended and candid conversation between the two communities.
A Shared Concern Over Rising Hate
The visit comes at a time of heightened anxiety within Alberta’s Sikh community, which has recently faced a spate of racially motivated incidents. During the meeting, both Sikh and Pakistani community leaders voiced deep concern over the targeting of visible minorities — particularly Sikhs — in these attacks, describing them as part of a disturbing pattern that threatens the fabric of Alberta’s multicultural society.
Leaders on both sides agreed that such incidents cannot be viewed in isolation, and that a coordinated, cross-community response is necessary to confront the root causes of hate-motivated violence.
