In recognition of Black History Month, we were invited to share the work we do with the team at Fluor Canada. A big thank you to Christina Crawford for pulling this altogether.

The room was full, with additional interest beyond the available space which reflected a real appetite for the conversation.

What stood out most was the engagement. The questions were thoughtful. The dialogue was open. People leaned in, even around topics that can feel complex in today’s DE&I climate.

A significant part of the discussion centered on allyship, particularly around what it looks like in practice, and how individuals from different races and backgrounds can play a meaningful role in expanding access and opportunity. The room reflected that diversity. And that’s something we deeply value. Thank you to our day one ally and CMF mentor Terri-Lynn Levy, CPHR, SHRM for sharing about how you have been walking along side of our journey.

CMF is rooted in supporting Black youth and professionals, and we also welcome mentors from all backgrounds who are committed to showing up, learning, and contributing to impact. That cross-cultural engagement is where mentorship becomes powerful.

Black History Month creates space to reflect. It also challenges us to think about what action looks like beyond February.

If your organization is exploring how mentorship can support impact, leadership development, and meaningful allyship, we’re always open to the conversation.

It was a meaningful space to connect with students, share insights, and highlight bursary opportunities available through Crown Mentorship Foundation (CMF). Creating access to information is just as important as creating access to opportunity.

A special thank you to Ilokugbe Egbase, CMF 2025 Alliance Program recipient, for sharing her experience and speaking to the impact of the Alliance Program and our Mentorship Shadow Day at Deloitte’s Calgary office. Hearing firsthand how mentorship and exposure can shift confidence, clarity, and direction is exactly why we do this work.

Grateful for the partnership and the continued commitment to empowering Black students to step boldly into their futures.

It’s February 11th, and although we haven’t posted yet for Black History Month, the work continues regardless of the date.

Black History Month has been officially recognized in Canada since 1995, acknowledging more than 400 years of Black presence and contribution in this country. At a time when equity and inclusion efforts are being questioned in many spaces globally, it’s important to stay focused on impact.

At Crown Mentorship Foundation, that impact looks like mentorship; creating access to networks, industry exposure, and practical guidance that helps Black students and professionals move forward.

The goal isn’t symbolism. It’s access. It’s opportunity. It’s outcomes.

Yesterday at our 2nd Mentorship Shadow Day at in Calgary and Edmonton, our students got a real look into what it means to show up confidently and build a career with intention. Deloitte leaders and members of the Black Action Council shared honest stories about authenticity, professionalism, and navigating early career steps — the kind of insight you only get when people are willing to speak openly.

We also took a moment to celebrate our bursary recipients, recognizing their hard work and the path they’re building for themselves.

Grateful to everyone who helped make the day meaningful for our youth.

Yesterday evening was an amazing kick off to cohort 2 of our Newcomers Program!

Here is our session 1 recap:

We kicked things off with a focus on Emotional Intelligence (EQ) — your career superpower.
• EQ drives leadership, collaboration, growth, and networking.
• It’s a top hiring metric in today’s market.

Invest in your EQ: it’s not just soft skills, it’s smart strategy.

We also explored:
• Composure: staying grounded when things don’t go your way.
• Communication: ensuring clarity and understanding.
• Documentation: organizing your thoughts to respond proactively.

These are the foundations for how you show up, build relationships, and grow your career.

Thanks to our mentor Tosan Joe, CBAP

For those who attended, what takeaway from this first session resonated most with you?

In upcoming sessions between October and December, we’ll dive into:
• Crafting your career strategy
• Building networking skills
• Application & interview prep
• Navigating Canadian workplace culture

The Newcomers project, funded by .frh.canada , is geared towards newcomers and/or Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET) youths. Crown Mentorship Foundation was created to bridge the gap between Black potential and opportunity.

Our Alliance Program reflects that mission, giving Black students tools to navigate and thrive in spaces not built with them in mind.

This is how we shift systems; one student at a time.
