We wrap up our recap series with our Entrepreneurship and Tech Camp! The goal for this camp was simple: teaching our well-seasoned students to imbibe an entrepreneurial and systems-thinking mindset. They explored how they can use all their prior and current coding knowledge to build a real solution and assess its market feasibility in the real world. What the students made was jaw-dropping.

The E & T camp was made even more special by an amazing guest speaker, Amy Cooper from Studio Q Designs, and an engaging session led by Donavan Robinson from Pop CoLab

To expand their entrepreneurial thinking, the participants also enjoyed a tour of the FabLab at North Forge | Startup Incubator. It was exciting to see how Manitoba’s innovation ecosystem is being built and the support being provided to founders.

We celebrate their hard work and ingenuity demonstrated throughout the camp and their efforts during the live pitch at the hackathon!

The Intro to AI and Computer Vision Camp was truly an amazing experience. We brought emerging technology to the level of 13-15 year-olds, and what they made was truly exceptional. It was surreal to see how they used AI and computer vision techniques to build web apps that solve real-world problems. Truly, every single girl at this camp embodied the spirit of “While She Solves It”. We also appreciate the RRC for the wonderful tour and AI workshop our students had.

What happens if you combine innovation, problem-solving, robotics, and ingenious minds? You get the Robotics Camp! With a little bit of imagination, these students built an array of awesome projects with the BBC micro:bit, exploring different angles of hardware and software integration. They also demonstrated exceptional teamwork and a collaborative spirit. We are excited to see the next-gen innovators that emerge from this camp!

Students also toured the HCI Lab at the University of Manitoba University of Manitoba HCI Lab , exploring how real-world researchers are using robotics to solve problems in creative ways. We appreciate Dr. Rea and his team for helping set up the tour!

We also thank Umeh Joshua, co-founder of Sole Capsule, for sharing about their next-level smart shoe display system, exposing the students to the entrepreneurial abilities of hardware and software systems.

Next up, we spotlight our game development students. We brought in 13 girls ages 10-12 with beginner to advanced coding experience, and they explored the wonderful world of game development. Creating mind-blowing projects with a 2D retro-style platform, MakeCode Arcade, these students also had an amazing guest speaker from Roblox, game developer and YouTuber Angelic , and a tour of the game development program space at Red River College Polytechnic. The camp ended with a gallery walk that invited parents and community members to play the games the students made. Kudos to all the amazing students!
