Pride Month: Living Into the Apology

The Right Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath, Moderator of The United Church of Canada, has shared a video message for Pride Month, inviting the church to reflect on the apology offered in 2025 to 2S and LGBTQIA+ people and communities.

Knox United Church was honoured to be the home of that historic apology service, offered during the 45th General Council in Calgary. For us, this was not only a moment in the life of the wider church. It was a sacred reminder of our call to be an Open Space, a Vibrant Place, and a Place of Sacred Connections, where all people are welcomed with dignity, courage, and love.

Next week, Rev. Keith Murray will be participating in From Words to Practice: Living Into the 2S and LGBTQIA+ Apology, a national United Church online gathering on Tuesday, June 9. This session will help communities reflect on the apology and explore practical ways to live into it through worship, community life, and public witness.

We invite you to watch the Moderator’s Pride Month video and to register for this important event as we continue the work of healing, accountability, and radical belonging.

God of the Rainbow,
More than those who watch for morning,
Our souls wait, for the day when each of us,
of every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation
knows that we are meant to be:
loved, cherished, and protected; and
that we are to be:
proud of our identities; and
celebrated.
For we are your imperfectly perfect children,
called to reflect Christ’s radiant light,
embody Christ’s radical love; and
build your beloved community,
especially when storms of fear and hatred rage around us.
And so, more than those who watch for morning,
we, in our great diversity,
wait for your promised rainbow of peace,
as we work towards a world where every gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation is affirmed as beloved; and,
every soul’s spirit is able to sparkle, shine and sing your dream with pride.
May it be so,
Amen.

What a beautiful Pentecost celebration at Knox United Church today.

The sanctuary was full of colour, joy, music, Spirit, and community as we celebrated the gift of Pentecost and welcomed six new members into the life of the church.

We are so grateful for the people who said yes today, yes to belonging, yes to community, yes to faith, and yes to walking with Knox in this season of ministry.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the service so meaningful, from worship leadership and music to hospitality, preparation, prayer, and welcome.

The Spirit is moving at Knox, and today was a beautiful reminder that the church is still growing, still gathering, and still becoming.

Welcome to our new members. We are so glad you are here.

We give thanks and celebrate newcomers and immigrants in our community.

May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Join us today in support of the non-negotiable truth of every person’s dignity.

Creator, we come to you with both the joys and the sorrows of our hearts.
We are grateful for the gift of life and the joy that it can bring.
For families and friends who love us.
For allies who stick up for us, even when we cannot risk sticking up for ourselves.
For the great diversity you have created in our world.
We pray for those who suffer from discrimination because of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Who worry about their employment or who cannot find a job.
For those who must hide who they are to find housing.
For those who are not safe on our streets.
For those who do not feel safe in their place of worship.
Help us to end homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia, and all forms of discrimination and hate.
Show us the way to make this world a better place for all.
