We are honoured to receive messages recognizing the official opening of the Portas da Cidade Monument at Azores Park from the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, and Brampton South M.P., Sonia Sidhu. Their words acknowledge the vision, dedication, volunteers, donors, and community partners who helped bring this project to life.

More than a monument, the Portas da Cidade represents the enduring connection between the Azores and Canada and a lasting place where future generations can celebrate, remember, and remain connected to their heritage.

🇵🇹 Que dia histórico para Brampton. 🇨🇦

On September 12, we officially unveiled the Portas da Cidade, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who came out to share in this unforgettable moment.

We were honoured to welcome distinguished representatives from the Azores, Portugal, Ponta Delgada, Ribeira Grande, the Diocese of Angra, the Government of Canada, the City of Brampton, and leaders from across our Portuguese-Canadian community — including;
• Dr. José Manuel Bolieiro, President of the Regional Government of the Azores
• His Worship Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton
• Dr. Bernardo Lucena, Ambassador of Portugal to Canada
• Dra. Ana Luísa Riquito, Consul-General of Portugal in Toronto
• Dr. Pedro Nascimento Cabral, Mayor of Ponta Delgada
• Dr. Jaime Vieira, Mayor of Ribeira Grande
and so many other distinguished guests and community leaders.

Mas, acima de tudo, somos gratos à nossa comunidade. A todos que apoiaram esta visão, contribuíram para a sua concretização, compareceram à inauguração, participaram da celebração e acreditaram que a nossa herança merecia um lugar permanente aqui em Brampton — muito obrigado.

As Portas da Cidade agora fazem parte da paisagem de Brampton, erguendo-se como um símbolo duradouro da contribuição portuguesa para o Canadá e das gerações de famílias que trouxeram a sua cultura, tradições, fé e memórias através do Atlântico.

And perhaps most importantly, this monument is no longer just ours. It belongs to the generations that come next — to our children and grandchildren, who will be able to see a piece of their heritage close to home and discover a little more of themselves in the story of where we came from.

From Ponta Delgada to Brampton, a piece of home has found its place here.

A meaningful afternoon in Brampton as we welcomed dignitaries from Portugal for a special gathering at historic Alderlea House. 🇵🇹🇨🇦

Bringing together Portuguese representatives, Members of Council and community leaders, the visit was an opportunity to connect, share in our common heritage, and celebrate the strong and growing relationship between Portugal and the Portuguese-Canadian community here in Brampton.

With the inauguration of the Portas da Cidade just around the corner, it was a fitting moment to reflect on how far our community has come—and the bridges we continue to build between home and the place we now call home.

A special day of connection, heritage and Portuguese pride. ❤️💚
