WHAI Media Statement for the International S*x Workers Day 2026
The 2nd of June 2026 is officially marked as the International S*x Worker’s Day. At Moyo Health and Community Services, we are thrilled to extend our love and solidarity to the S*x Workers’ community across the Peel region in Ontario, and across the globe.
We would like to appreciate the strength, courage, and resilience of the S*x Workers Community in our constituency. Their work is frequently marred by violence, precarity, and risks. And yet, as human rights bearers under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, they are worthy of dignity, protection from all forms of discrimination and harms, safe working conditions, and bodily autonomy.
S*x workers across the globe continue to negotiate their livelihoods under conditions of immigration precarity, income insecurity, housing insecurity, criminalization, and stigma among other issues. We would like to reaffirm our support for the community with the emphasis that S*x Workers’ Rights are Human Rights and their protection is non-negotiable!
This year’s “Whore’s Day” is commemorated under the theme: “Access to Justice!” This theme highlights the reality that some of the structural barriers imposed upon the s*x trade industry are tied to the law and the criminal justice system. These barriers continue to deny, denigrate and devalue the labour of workers in the industry. Today’s commemoration presents a ripe moment for us to remind governments across the globe, including our own, about the need to remove systemic barriers against s*x trade & offer equitable protections.
In the spirit of solidarity, we amplify the call for access to justice by s*x workers across the Peel region, and Canada as a whole.
We demand access to Justice and better protections!
