Rev. Paul Chang: a life faithfully lived, and a legacy that lives on!
Today, we celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Rev. Paul Chang, a true P.I. royalty whose 94 years were marked by a deep love for God, a heart for the Church, a passion for the nations, and an unwavering commitment to the work of the Gospel.
For Rev. Chang, God’s work came first. It was a simple reality for him, and it ran through every season of his life. Even in his final years, though physically frail, his mind remained sharp, his spirit rich, and his heart still ablaze for God.
His love for ministry never faded.
From 1974 to 2005, Rev. Chang served as Director of CNEC Southeast Asia, a ministry deeply connected to Partners International's shared history. He carried an expansive vision for mission and believed in building bridges to every corner of the globe.
He embraced the holistic Gospel model: winning, equipping and sending local mission workers to reach their own countrymen and plant indigenous churches. This vision continues to shape Partners International's ministry today.
Rev. Chang’s ministry was always about people.
He longed to see the Church truly live as one body. He opened his home to fellowship, invested deeply in others, discipled generations of believers and helped countless people grow in their faith. He understood the beauty of passing the faith from one generation to the next and lived out the truth of 2 Timothy 2:2.
And music was woven into his life of worship.
A gifted tenor, Rev. Chang led and sang in choirs for Billy Graham crusades and became the first Director of the Music Department at Singapore Bible College. Even toward the end of his life, music could still lift his spirit.
He did not just lead worship; he lived it, and it lived within him.
A second-generation servant of Christ, Rev. Chang received a legacy of faith and ministry from his father, who was martyred for the faith. But this did not deter him; instead, he spent his own life extending that legacy to others. Even after his years as CNEC Director ended, he didn’t retire. He continued as a missionary with a big heart for the field leaders, particularly in Myanmar.
Over the last few years he was instrumental in encouraging the development of the Heart Melody Centre in Myanmar and encouraging the church through the difficult period of armed conflict and disaster.
At 94, his life tells a beautiful story of faithfulness across generations.
He lived a life of service, with a heart on fire for God, love for the Church, passion for worship, vision for the nations, and a legacy entrusted to others.
Indeed, like Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, we can confidently say Rev. Chang fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
His race may be finished, but the work he gave his life to continues.
