🦫 🐾🌲 What a way to wrap up another amazing Scouting year! 🌲🐾 🦫

This weekend, the 2nd Arnprior Beaver Colony headed to Camp Opemikon near Maberly for our year-end camp. Joining us were Cubs, Scouts, and Ventures from both Arnprior and our friends at 1st West Carleton for an unforgettable all-sections adventure!

For many of our Beavers, this was their very first overnight Scout camp—and what an introduction it was! The weather was beautiful (once we survived Friday night's "slightly breezy" conditions that may or may not have felt like gale-force winds). The campsite was fantastic, the scenery was stunning, and the mosquitoes were... very enthusiastic about welcoming us.

The wildlife did not disappoint. We spotted everything from ticks and millipedes to turtles, owls, turkeys, and even beavers. (We're keeping it a secret which kind was more plentiful.)

Our Beavers spent the weekend exploring the camp, hiking the trails, visiting the Venture cabin, and taking on the low ropes course. A huge thank you to Scouter Alex G for literally showing us the ropes and helping our youth tackle challenges that required teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. There may have been a few wobbly moments, but everyone rose to the challenge!

One of the highlights of the weekend was attending our very first Council Campfire. We learned some Scouting traditions, sang songs, cheered for fellow Scouts, and laughed until our cheeks hurt. Thank you to 116th Nepean Group for the warm welcome and a campfire our Beavers won't soon forget.

Of course, no Scout camp is complete without food. We ate until our bellies couldn't fit another bite... and then somehow found room for marshmallows anyway. A massive thank you to Scouter Lorne from 1st West Carleton for once again taking on cooking duties and keeping a camp full of hungry youth and Scouters well-fed.

The most meaningful moment for many of our Beavers was the Swim-Up Ceremony. Nine of our Beavers swam up the river, said farewell to their friends at the Beaver Pond, and joined the Cub Pack in Akela's Jungle. We are incredibly proud of how much they have grown and know they are more than ready for the next step in their Scouting journey.

The Colony also bids farewell to Echo, Rusty, and Tic Tac as they move on to become Pack Scouters. Thank you for everything you have done for our Beavers over the years. While we'll miss having you around the pond, we're excited to see the impact you'll have in the Pack. And don't worry—the Colony will be in great hands with that silly squirrel, Tic Tac, helping lead the way.

We were also fortunate to witness moving-up ceremonies for Cubs heading to Scouts and Scouts heading to Ventures, a reminder that Scouting is one long adventure filled with growth, challenge, friendship, and new opportunities.

As we packed up camp and headed home, we left with full bellies, sharpened skills, countless memories, and more than a few very tired Beavers (and Scouters!). Weekends like this remind us why Scouting is so special.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, youth, parents, and Scouters who helped make this weekend such a success. And an enormous thank you to our families who joined us this weekend - without you, we wouldn’t have made it til Saturday! (For real, we couldn’t even have set up our tents 😂)

We hope all of our Scouting families have an amazing summer filled with adventure, campfires, hiking trails, and plenty of opportunities to make memories together. We hope to see many of you throughout the summer, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back for another year of fun when Scouting resumes in the fall.

Until then: stay curious, stay adventurous, and keep sharing! 🦫💙

Tonight the Beavers traded in their tails for test tubes as we worked toward earning our Science Beaver Badge! 🔬🪲🌿

We spent a beautiful spring evening exploring the wonders of nature at Robert Simpson Park with Tic Tac, Rusty, and Rascal leading the way. Armed with sharp eyes, curious minds, and pockets mysteriously full of pebbles by the end of the night, our young scientists searched high and low for signs of life along the beach and shoreline habitats.

The Beavers discovered snails gliding through the mud, busy bugs crawling through the grass, and all sorts of interesting treasures hidden in the sand and shallow water. We talked about how beaches, forests, ponds, and rivers are all different habitats where plants and animals find food, shelter, and homes. Some Beavers even became “official stick inspectors” while others specialized in “very important rock research.” Science is serious business, after all.

We explored how insects hide for protection, how tiny creatures help keep nature healthy, and how the water near the shore is home to all kinds of living things — even if the fish, frogs, and beavers themselves must have been attending a secret animal meeting somewhere else tonight. 🐸🐟🦫

Tonight was also our final regular meeting before summer holidays begin. It’s been an amazing year full of adventures, laughter, crafts, games, and muddy discoveries, but we’re not quite done yet! We’re very excited for our year-end camp next weekend at Camp Opemikon where even more Beaver memories are waiting to be made around the campfire. 🔥⛺

Well done, scientists!

Tonight was a very special night for the 2nd Arnprior Beaver Colony.

Our White Tails were awarded their North Star Award — the highest award a Beaver Scout can earn. And according to our Group Commissioner, it’s the first time in at least a decade (or more) that Arnprior Beavers have earned it!🌟

Over the years, these Beavers have learned new skills, made lifelong friendships, tried new adventures, pushed beyond their comfort zones, learned the importance of sharing and helping others, cared for the world around them, and given back to their community. Tonight was a celebration of that entire journey.

While Rusty and Rascal took the White Tails on a special hike to reflect on their time in Beavers and all the memories they have made along the way, the rest of the colony worked hard preparing the campfire under the watchful eye of Tic Tac, Echo, and Scouter Martin. The younger Beavers gathered wood, helped set up the campfire area, and eagerly waited for the return of the White Tails they look up to so much.

As the White Tails returned to camp, they were welcomed back by the glow of the colony campfire and the cheers of their fellow Beavers, families, and Scouters. One by one, each White Tail stepped forward to receive their award. Before receiving their badge and certificate, they tossed a symbolic paper torch into the fire — adding their own light to the colony campfire to continue guiding the younger Beavers, just as the North Star guides travellers home. It was a simple moment, but a powerful reminder that leadership, kindness, courage, and friendship leave a lasting light behind for others to follow.

Each White Tail then shared something they enjoyed, or learned, during their time at the Beaver pond, and then received their North Star badge and certificate from our Group Commissioner, Scouter Martin, surrounded by proud families, leaders, and fellow Scouts.

There were definitely a few emotional moments for the Scouters tonight. We still remember many of these Beavers arriving shy, nervous, and tiny in oversized brown vests. Tonight we watched them stand proudly and confidently in front of the colony as leaders, role models, and adventurers ready for their next step. Watching that growth is one of the greatest privileges of Scouting.

Of course, no Beaver campfire celebration would be complete without cupcakes, sparklers, laughter, and a little bit of silliness to finish off the evening. 🧁✨

We are incredibly proud of our White Tails for everything they have accomplished during their Beaver journey. They have earned every bit of this award.

Now only one challenge remains — to show off all of those skills at year-end camp before they officially swim up to Akela’s Jungle and begin their next adventure with the Cub Pack.

Once a Beaver, always a Beaver. 🦫💙

Tonight was our official Camping 101 meeting, because before heading off on our big year-end camp, we figured it was important to learn how not to accidentally build a tent shaped like a burrito. 🏕️🌯

Under the watchful eyes of Rusty and Rascal, the Beavers learned how to put up tents… or at least discovered that tent instructions seem to have been written by foxes and otters. There were poles everywhere, lots of teamwork, and only a small amount of “I think this piece goes here?”

That sneaky squirrel Tic Tac also dumped out all of his “camping gear” for inspection. Mixed in with the sleeping bags and flashlights were a few items that definitely should not come to camp. Echo helped the colony decide what belonged in a camping bag — and what belonged back at home. (Sorry Tic Tac, but we’re still not packing a toilet plunger, a TV remote, or a rubber chicken.)

We also spent time brainstorming ideas for camp activities, games, and adventures. The Beavers had lots of creative ideas, and judging by the excitement level, this year’s camp is going to be in-tents! ⛺🦫🔥

Even though it was a little chilly outside, the colony did an unbe-leaf-able job getting ready for our big adventure. We’re feeling much more prepared… and maybe just a little more camp-fident too!

🌊🛶 Beaver Meeting Recap – Making a Splash! 🛶🌊

Today, the 2nd Arnprior Beavers made waves (literally!) at the Nick Smith Centre as we dove into the world of paddling and canoeing!

We kicked things off on dry land, learning all about water safety—what gear we need, how to stay safe, and why it’s important to always be thinking ahead when we’re near the water. (Spoiler: staying dry is optional… but being safe is not!)

Then it was off to the pool! 🏊‍♂️
With Echo and Rusty leading the charge, we practiced our paddling strokes—forward, backward, and “oops-I-spun-in-a-circle” (a Beaver classic). Meanwhile, Tic Tac and Rascal showed us the parts of a canoe, how to get in and out like pros, and what to do if we take an unexpected swim. (Good news: everyone survived! 😄)

Next, it was time to put our skills to the test. Beavers took to the water with their adult paddling partners, cruising around the pool like true voyageurs-in-training. Under the watchful eyes of Tic Tac and Rascal, we paddled, steered, and tried not to crash into the walls (mostly successfully!). Over on the side, Echo and Rusty had Beavers practicing their rope throwing skills—because nothing says teamwork like rescuing your friends from a “watery disaster!”

And to top it all off, every Beaver earned their **Paddling Skills Level 1 badge** for their hard work, teamwork, and awesome attitudes! 🎉

All in all, it was an oar-some day full of learning, laughter, and just a few splashes. The Beavers really *went with the flow* and proved they can handle whatever comes their wave! 🌊

Great job, Beavers—canoe believe how much you learned in one day?! 😄

A big thank you to the Nick Smith Centre for letting us bring the boats into the pool, and to the parents and guardians for coming out to help, get wet, and share in the fun! We couldn’t do it with you all.

Tonight, the Beavers had a fantastic visit to the Arnprior & District Museum, where we stepped back in time and explored the rich history of our community!

A huge thank you to our wonderful hosts, Danielle and Daniel, who brought the past to life with stories and hands-on learning. The Beavers discovered just how important wood and lumber were in shaping Arnprior, and how the hardworking lumberjacks helped build the town we know today. We also learned about the history of the Algonquin peoples, whose traditional territory our community is built on—an important and meaningful part of our shared story.

Of course, it wasn’t all just listening—we got moving too! The Beavers had a blast trying a version of an old lumberjack game: the blanket toss, which brought lots of laughs and teamwork. They also worked together to draw trees, a great reminder of how much history and life is rooted all around us here in Arnprior.

To top off an already great evening, our museum hosts helped present the Beavers with their Canada Beaver badges, recognizing their learning about our country, our community, and the role each of us plays within it. A proud moment for everyone!

Thank you again to the Arnprior & District Museum, and especially Danielle and Daniel, for welcoming us and sharing so much knowledge, enthusiasm, and local history. It was a meaningful and memorable night for our entire colony!

Tonight was a pretty special one for our Colony.

Our oldest Beavers, the White Tails, officially wrapped up their Northern Lights project—and they did it in a big way. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, they raised over $1400 and turned that into nearly 800 cans of cat food, more than 35 bags of kibble, plus kitty litter, treats, and cleaning supplies for the local animal shelter.

That’s a lot of full bellies… and probably a lot of very judgmental cats 🐱

We couldn’t be more proud of our White Tails. They didn’t just come up with a great idea—they saw it all the way through. From planning, to collecting, to delivering, they showed what it means to help others (even the kind that knock things off tables on purpose).

A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible:

* Our community, for your generosity and support
* Our Beaver families, for baking, donating, and helping gather supplies
* Renfrew County Bus Lines, for helping get our Colony there and back
* And the Humane Society staff, for welcoming us, showing us around, and letting us spend time with some very deserving furry friends (over 75 cats currently need care!)

Tonight was about more than donations—it was about kindness, teamwork, and seeing firsthand the impact these young Beavers can have on the world.

We think that’s pretty paws-itively amazing.

Tonight’s Beaver meeting looked a little different — and in the best way.

This evening was our supply drive and fundraiser in support of the Arnprior and District Humane Society, led by our White Tails as part of their North Star Award. This award represents the culmination of their time in Beaver Scouts, and challenges them to give back to their community in a meaningful way, through a project they choose themselves.

Our White Tails chose to organize a bake sale and supply drive to support animals in need — and thanks to this incredible community, their efforts were met with overwhelming generosity. It was truly inspiring to see so many people come out to support this cause and show just how caring and giving our community is.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, contributed supplies, or stopped by to support the bake sale. A special thank you as well to our Beaver families, whose time, baking, and support made the evening such a success.

Stay tuned next week as we share the results and deliver our donations to the Arnprior and District Humane Society.
