Arnprior Lions Club Walk for Dog Guides

Arnprior Lions Club Walk for Dog Guides The Arnprior Lion Clubs are sponsoring the Pet Valu Dog Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, May 28th, 2023

In the early 1980's Lions Clubs across Canada sought to develop a national project to reflect their service to Canadians with visual impairments. The result was Lions Foundation of Canada and its founding program, Canine Vision Canada, which was established in 1985. Since then the Foundation has grown to include additional Dog Guide programs:
Hearing, Service, Seizure Response, Autism Assistance,

Diabetic Alert and newly introduced, Facility Support. The mission of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is to empower Canadians with disabilities to navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing Dog Guides at no cost to them and supporting each pair in their journey together. The largest school of its kind in Canada, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is located in Oakville with a breeding and training facility in Breslau. Dog Guides in seven distinct programs are provided at no cost to eligible Canadians from coast to coast. From breeding to rearing and training with a life-time of follow-up services, each Dog Guide is $35,000 to train and place. The foundation relies on donations to provide these special matches and does not receive any government funding. Now the largest school of its kind in Canada, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is located in Oakville and has a breeding and training facility in Breslau.

Meet Alex and his Seizure Response Dog Guide, Jensen. ❤️🐾

When Alex was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2007, it didn’t feel life-changing at first. But over time, it quietly began shrinking his world — travelling alone became difficult, seeing friends felt uncertain, and independence felt out of reach.

That changed when he was matched with Jensen.

In just 11 months, Jensen has become more than a Dog Guide — he is Alex’s safety, reassurance, and constant companion.
“I can say ‘yes’ again,” Alex shares. “Yes to travelling independently. Yes to seeing friends. Yes to living without constant fear.”

Just one day after bringing Jensen home, Alex experienced a seizure — and watched him respond exactly as he had been trained to do. In that moment, everything changed.

“For years, I either stayed home or took risky chances going out alone. Both options came with fear. Now, I have freedom.”

Alex participates in the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides because he believes disabilities should never limit independence — and we couldn’t agree more.

Help create more life-changing partnerships like Alex and Jensen’s by supporting the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides at www.walkfordogguides.com

Together, we restore independence. Together, we transform lives.
