November is Indigenous Disability Awareness Month 🧡

November is Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (IDAM), a time to recognize, celebrate, and raise awareness of Indigenous Peoples living with disabilities across Canada.

Indigenous Peoples with disabilities may face additional barriers to accessing healthcare, education, employment, housing, and community supports. These challenges can be made greater by discrimination, systemic inequalities, and a lack of culturally appropriate and accessible services.

At Community Living Ajax-Pickering & Whitby (CLAPW), we believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, have their voices heard, make their own choices, and experience meaningful inclusion and belonging in their communities.

This month is an opportunity to listen, learn, celebrate the strengths and contributions of Indigenous Peoples with disabilities, and recognize the importance of removing barriers to accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunities.

Together, we can help build communities where every person is valued, respected, supported, and empowered to belong.

Inclusion matters. Accessibility matters. Every voice matters. 🧡

⏰🍂 Don't Forget to Fall Back! Daylight Saving Time Ends November 1!

It's that time of year again! On Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 a.m., clocks in Ontario will move BACK one hour to 1:00 a.m.

That means we get an extra hour in our day! 🎉

🍁 What does this mean?

⏰ An extra hour of sleep! Or an extra hour to enjoy something you love.

🌅 Brighter mornings: The sun will rise earlier according to our clocks.

🌙 Darker evenings: The sun will set earlier, so it will start getting dark sooner.

💡 Why do we change our clocks?

Daylight Saving Time helps us make better use of natural daylight during the warmer months. In November, we return to Standard Time.

A friendly reminder from Community Living Ajax-Pickering & Whitby (CLAPW): Don't forget to change any clocks that don't update automatically!

🍂 Here's to a new month, a little extra rest, and making the most of that extra hour!

As Janys prepares to leave CLAPW after many years, we wanted to share some lovely words from a colleague who nominated her for recognition through our Cheers for Peers program.

Janys is known for her kindness, dependability and the caring relationships she has built with the people she supports and her coworkers. She is always willing to lend a listening ear, offer thoughtful advice and help wherever needed.

Thank you, Janys, for your years of service and the contributions you've made to the Kirby team. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter! ❤️
