This past Wednesday, we had our Ceremonial Divisions night. It was largely used to prepare for our upcoming ACR. We had the honour of having LCdr (Ret’d) Peter Danks from the HMS AJAX and River Plate Veterans Association as our Reviewing Officer, as well as other members and Ajax Ward 2 Councillor, Nancy Henry, in attendance. The cadets were able to practice and perform the numerous displays that are part of the program for Annual.

Additionally, the Captain Tubby Squires Award, one of the only awards that the Cadets themselves have a say in, was presented. It was originally donated to us on their 40th Anniversary visit in 2016. This award is voted by the corps and given to the cadet who they believe has contributed significantly to the overall success of the corps by being a positive example, helpful, and maintaining high standards of dress and deportment.

The cadet awarded with this award this year was CPO1 Ahmed, H. Congratulations Chief!

Another successful sail weekend! Although on Saturday it was a bit too windy for them to go out, on Sunday, the cadets got a nice, full, day out on the water! For most of them, sailing is a new skill, so bravo zulu to all those cadets who put themselves out of their comfort zones, tried a new thing, and had fun while doing it!

On May 30, Harwood Cadets had the opportunity to participate in the Welcome Procession for the members of the HMS AJAX and River Plate Veterans Association for the 50th anniversary of the ship's visit in 1976. The cadets were able to march in a short parade on the pier, as well as watch some of the ceremony, with the band playing, and some speeches.

It was truly such a unique experience, and the cadets are so grateful!

From May 8-10 our Harwood cadets attended the Sea Elemental Weekend at CFB Trenton, alongside other sea cadets from the South Eastern Ontario Area! Our cadets had the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge in knots, semaphore, heaving line, and other aspects of seamanship.

Our phase 3 and 4 cadets had a very special chance to work towards their Power Boat Operator (PCOC) and their Marine Radio (ROCM) certifications. Our seniors, especially the ALP (Advanced Leadership Program) cadets, spent a lot of time this weekend building their leadership skills and becoming stronger seniors!

From April 17-19, Harwood cadets participated in a seamanship weekend at CFB Trenton! This weekend was in collaboration with 279 Bowmanville, 106 Sir Francis Drake and 226 Whitby. Cadets had a fun time collaborating with peers from other corps while building on their seamanship skills.

They had the opportunity to partake in sheer legs, heaving line, and making a strop just to name a few. The cadets also had a sports and fitness activity before they headed home, with activities ranging from fun games to self defence training!

On April 11, our drill team participated in the drill without arms competition for the Southeastern Ontario Area (West), the first drill competition since 2019.

We placed 3rd out of the teams that competed on our competition day, and 5th out of the 11 teams over the whole weekend for SEOA. Additionally our team captain Petty Officer First Class Jain placed 3rd for top drill team commander out of all 11 teams.

We are so proud of all the cadets who put in the hard work, preparing and practicing the routine, and even performing a silent routine. Bravo Zulu!
