Today was a productive maintenance day: volunteers weeded and mulched common areas, and helped with cleanup for plot members in need of support due to health issues or other challenges. Thank you to all who attended!

A special thank you to SACG member Galina who grew several food shrubs and plants from seed, and led their planting on the South end of the garden today. Thank you Galina!

It’s high time to beat the birds at picking highbush cranberries (Viburnum trilobum)!

Highbush “cranberry” isn’t really a true cranberry at all, but is actually a plant native to our area in the honeysuckle family with a similar vibe to the lowbush cranberry (true cranberry) that we all know and love. Our large highbush cranberry shrub is located at the south centre edge of the SACG plots.

Highbush cranberries are very tart raw, but are traditionally used across cultures for making into sauces, jellies, and other delicacies with a generous helping of sugar.

Our lovely food bank volunteer, Lisa, shared this photo of yesterday’s donations to Hope Church & Community Services!

Yesterday, TSA Hope fed over 50 people in need lunch. They enjoyed SACG’s tomatoes and lettuce and sandwiches, and the zucchini in muffins and soup!

Please remember to donate anything you can on Sunday and Wednesday evenings in the main shed. On Mondays we donate to The Salvation Army HOPE Ajax and Thursdays to Southside Worship Centre ❤️🙏🏻
