From the first ride to the final celebrations in Quito 🇪🇨

Recap of the 26th CISM World Military Equestrian Championship brought together military athletes from around the world for a week of competition, cultural exchange and shared experiences.

The event concluded with the Closing Ceremony, where outstanding performances were recognized through various individual and team awards, including the Friendship Through Sport Award, celebrating the values that unite the CISM community beyond competition.

One of CISM’s most meaningful distinctions, the Friendship Through Sport Award, sponsored by A5 Defence Magazine (A5 DM), a longstanding partner of CISM, recognizes the delegation that best embodies the core values of friendship, solidarity, mutual respect, and fair play throughout a championship. More than a sporting award, it celebrates the spirit that unites military athletes beyond competition.

Presented by CISM Board of Directors member Lieutenant Colonel Jan Van den Dool, the award was presented to General Gabriel Zárate Zapata, in recognition of Ecuador’s outstanding commitment to the values at the heart of CISM: Friendship through Sport.

The second competition day of the 26th CISM World Military Equestrian Championship delivered strong performances with Romania 🇷🇴 claiming 1st and 3rd place, while the host nation Ecuador 🇪🇨 secured an impressive 2nd place.

Beyond the arena, in the afternoon delegations gathered in the heart of Quito to witness the traditional Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Government Palace, before coming together in the evening for the Gala Dinner, accompanied by live music and the CISM tradition of Gift Exchange.
These moments helped celebrating friendship, culture and international military cooperation.

First competition day in Quito 🇪🇨

The 26th CISM World Military Equestrian Championship officially entered the competitive phase, as riders and horses took to the arena for the first tests of skill, adaptability and precision.
At the first awards ceremony for the day, Peru managed to get first 🇵🇪

Beyond the competition, participants also had the opportunity to discover one of Ecuador’s most iconic landmarks: the Mitad del Mundo, where the Equator marks the meeting point of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

A memorable start in Quito 🇪🇨

The opening day of the 26th CISM World Military Equestrian Championship began with the Horse Draw and Acclimatization Session, where riders met their randomly assigned horses and prepared for the challenges ahead.

The day continued with a vibrant Opening Ceremony, celebrating Ecuador’s rich cultural heritage through traditional music, dances and performances, while welcoming military athletes from around the world to Quito.
