🌭 Good food. Great conversations. Stronger connections. 💛

Last Thursday, HOPE Whyalla brought the community together at Civic Park for our Connections & Conversations Community BBQ!

With free sausages, drinks and sporting equipment, the park was buzzing with families, laughter, conversations and connection. 🏃‍♀️☀️

At a time when our community is facing significant challenges, we wanted to create a space where people could simply come together, have a chat and feel connected.

A huge shoutout to our Connections & Conversations Action Group who helped make the day happen, from setting up to cooking and serving the community!

🤝 Countless conversations shared
💬 New connections made
❤️ Left over sausages donated to Centacare Catholic Country SA to support their emergency relief food packs

The school holidays and busy location made it a great opportunity to connect with local families and share more about HOPE, our vision and how we can work together towards a stronger, more connected Whyalla.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a sausage, a sunny day and a good conversation. 💛

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a positive day!

This week has been a heavy one for Whyalla.

Behind every announcement are people, families, workmates, local businesses and a community working out what comes next.

For some, this week has brought incredibly difficult news. For others, there is still uncertainty. And across Whyalla, many of us are supporting someone we know and care about.

HOPE Whyalla exists because we believe lasting change happens when our community works together.

Right now, that matters more than ever.

We are working alongside local organisations, community leaders and government as part of the broader response, helping make sure our community stays connected and that the voices and needs of Whyalla people continue to be heard as the response develops.

Practical support is available now through the Whyalla Worker Transition Centre, bringing together support for affected workers and families in one place.

Find out more about the Worker Transition Centre: https://whyallasupport.sa.gov.au

We also know the impact of change like this doesn't end after the first few weeks. Families, young people, local businesses and our wider community will feel it in different ways and at different times.

To everyone directly impacted and to the families, friends, workmates and businesses standing alongside them, we see you and we're thinking of you.

HOPE Whyalla will keep showing up, listening and working together for our community. 💜

💜 We’re growing our team at HOPE Whyalla!

An exciting opportunity is now open for a Community Development Facilitator (Youth), working in partnership with Mission Australia.

This role will become part of HOPE Whyalla’s work with young people and the broader community, helping strengthen opportunities for young people to have a voice, get involved and shape what happens locally.

We’re excited to welcome someone who genuinely cares about Whyalla, enjoys connecting with young people and wants to be part of what HOPE Whyalla is building.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, we’d love you to take a look.

📣 Final call for our Whyalla young people aged 14 to 19!

Have your say before the Youth Survey closes this Friday, and don’t forget to include your postcode so Whyalla voices are captured in the results.

📣 Final Call! Whyalla & Port Augusta

The 2026 Youth Survey closes this week Friday 14 August, so there are only a few days left for local young people aged 14 to 19 to have their say.

Your voice matters, and we want to make sure the experiences and views of young people in Whyalla and Port Augusta are represented.

📍 One really important thing: when completing the survey, please make sure you 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲. This helps make sure responses from our local communities can be identified and reflected in the results.

The survey is anonymous, online and takes just a few minutes, covering things like cost of living, mental health, study, work, climate and social media.

📱 Parents, teachers, siblings, youth workers and anyone working with young people, please help us get this final call out across Whyalla and Port Augusta.

Check out the program in the description for the mental health matters round 🏉

🎉 The wait is over... Mental Health Matters Round is back! 💚

After giving you a sneak peek behind the scenes, we're so excited to officially launch Mental Health Matters Round 2026!

This August, there are more opportunities than ever to connect, get active and support your mental wellbeing. 🌞

What began in 2024 as a collaboration between headspace Whyalla, Whyalla City Council and the Whyalla Football League has grown into a community-wide movement.

This year, we're going even bigger, welcoming soccer to the round and expanding our committee to include Centacare Catholic Country SA.

Mental Health Matters Round is about so much more than sport. It's about breaking stigmas, raising awareness and uniting our community.

💚 Every event helps raise awareness and funds for local mental health initiatives, directly supporting programs in our community.

📅 Check out the full program and see how you can get involved:
