Condolences to Evonne Cassar

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to our friend and colleague Evonne Cassar. Evonne's dear husband Fred who was well known to many of us passed away in Adelaide on the morning of April 26 after a short illness.

Fred was well known to the Men's Shed as their electrician and electronics go-to guy. He was also a tireless volunteer for the Centrals Football Club as well as long time member of the Whyalla Bird Club.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Evonne and family during this difficult time.

Is she trying to give Imelda Marcos some competition?

Here's Jenny with another shoe rack and more shoes and a top that's colour coordinated to boot (pun intended). Made at the woodwork class. Well done again Jenny.

Staying alive...

U3A members at the CPR presentation on April 2.

Emma Thompson, a seasoned paramedic from the Whyalla SAAS showed a video regarding the latest recommendations for CPR.. 30 compressions with an optional two breaths at a rate of 100 compressions per minute.

Participants practiced in pairs on mannequins to the tune of the Bee Gees classic - Stayin' Alive.

Then after a demonstration of the correct use of an AED, or Defibrillator, participants then had a chance to use an AED.

The session was followed by questions and morning tea.

Many thanks to Emma for an informative morning.

Hi all.
The 2026 U3A Program for Term 2 kicks off on Monday April 27.

The programs have been sent by EMail to those with email addresses and should also have been soon dropped into your letterboxes or handed out at group sessions or at the end of Term lunch. You can also find them posted below.

If you still haven't paid your annual registration please be sure to do so as soon as possible by forwarding money and your enrolment form to the Treasurer or otherwise to any Committee member or Group leader.

Please take note of the following -

• The Annual General Meeting will be held on April 28 at 1:00pm in Room 72. Please come along and consider volunteering for a position on the Committee.

• Term 2 will feature a new Computing class on Friday morning hosted by Bill Hatherly from the Men’s Shed. This will be held from 9:30-10:30 in room 72 at the Uni. Bring your own laptops and phones. You will need your phones to create a personal hotspot so you can link to the Internet. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail the topics you would like covered and we will try to come up with a weekly program that covers as many of these topics as possible.

• There will be a Croquet session on June 4 at the Croquet Club on Whitehead Street, which will commence at 10:00am.

• Please note that Tai Chi and French classes are not accepting any more new members this year.

• The venue for the monthly Thrifty lunches will now be the Sundowner Hotel as the Salvo store has closed.

• Our guest speakers for Term 2 will be from the Statewide Palliative Care Navigation Service (May 21) and from the State Emergency Service (SES) Whyalla (June 18).

• Also note that with the recent merger of the University of SA with The University of Adelaide we have changed all previous references to UniSA in the program to UniAdelaide. Nothing else has changed and the University and Room 72 are still where they were last term!

So here's looking forward to a busy Term 2. Be there or be square.
