We had a smaller gathering Saturday night but had lots of laughs and delicious food. The Bryant's & the Shelly's might be banned from future raffles if they keep winning them and the members draw. This month it was Barb & Tony Bryant's turn to win the members draw which was only $20 after the Shelly's won a jackpot last month. So it's back to $20 for December.

Don't forget the Angling Club will be hosting the Community Dinner Wednesday 11th November at the Community Centre. All welcome.

There weren't too many out fishing on our 4 day Cup weekend competition. Tides didn't help but also there was so much else going on in town. Rohan Oakes took out 1st prize with a pinky 1060g and takes home the $100 voucher from Inverloch Fishing and Outdoors . Terry Shelly won 2nd prize with his trevally, a $50 voucher from the Riverview Hotel. But the real winner of the day was young Ned Bluett-Boyd who outfished everyone (including his mum & dad) with 2 flatties and a trevally weighing 1140g. Ned was pretty happy with his trophy.

Great News for Venus Bay Beaches!
Earlier this year, Garry from the Venus Bay Men’s Shed initiated a conversation about p**i harvesting and beach safety during the summer months. The Venus Bay Angling Club joined the discussion, and a meeting was held at the Men’s Shed to explore the concerns and possible solutions.

Following this, two community meetings were held, resulting in the formation of two groups. One group focused on organising a petition calling for a short seasonal closure of p**i harvesting, while the other looked at beach infrastructure, parking and ways to better manage beach access and safety. This second group evolved into a committee of four, including two VBAC members.

After months of meetings, discussions and collaboration with local emergency services, community groups and clubs, we were delighted to finally meet this week with representatives from Parks Victoria, Victoria Police and South Gippsland Shire Council. Members of CERTS, CFA, VBAC, the Venus Bay Community Centre and the Men’s Shed also attended.

The outcomes of this meeting made all the hard work and collaboration over the past year worthwhile!

Here’s what’s happening:

🚔 Increased parking enforcement: Victoria Police will be conducting parking blitzes across all our beaches over the Christmas/New Year period and the Australia Day weekend. This will help improve access for emergency services and make our beaches safer for everyone.

🚗 Illegal parking across driveways: If a vehicle is illegally parked across your driveway, preventing access, you can report it to local police. Vehicles may be towed if necessary.

🪧 Improved parking signage: Parks Victoria and South Gippsland Shire Council will review parking signage at each beach and arrange for additional signs where needed.

🚻 Toilet direction signs: New signage will also be installed at Beaches 2–4 to indicate the location of the nearest toilet facilities.

It’s fantastic to see our community’s concerns being heard and practical steps being taken to improve beach safety, access and facilities for residents and visitors alike.

A big thank you to Garry, everyone involved in the working groups, our local emergency services and community organisations, and the representatives from Parks Victoria, Victoria Police and Council for working together to make this happen.

Bit of a blast from the past!

A number of fish were weighed in over the 3 days with some caught from the boat and some land based. Matthew Bell won 1st prize of a $100 voucher from Inverloch Fishing and Outdoors for his salmon weighing in at 2.060 kg. 2nd prize of a $50 voucher from the Riverview Hotel went to Kevin Field with a bream weighing 1.28 kg.
