Applications are now welcome for the first ABC Science Journalism Fellowship, as part of a major multi-year boost to the coverage of science and medicine issues at the ABC.
The fellowship program is funded by a very generous donation to ABC Friends from Margaret Bales, a life-long ABC listener, who wanted to “enhance science and medicine coverage on the ABC”. Margaret’s story and the story of the gift were previously reported here by Dr Gael Jennings, former ABC Science Journalist.
The Fellowship is a unique opportunity for a journalism-oriented scientist or a science-oriented journalist to launch a new career and significantly contribute to ABC science coverage at the same time. The advertisement for the position and the position description for the fellowship have been advertised widely.
The fellowship program could run for up to ten years because of the generosity of Margaret Bales’ donation. Her patronage of ABC science journalism will have a lasting impact and is greatly appreciated.
