🌿 We’re More Stimulated Than Ever — So Why Are We More Bored?
I recently came across research showing that boredom has risen by around 15–17% over the past decade, particularly among young people.
And today, around 63% of adults in the U.S. report feeling bored at least once during a typical 10-day period.
At first, that sounds strange.
We have endless entertainment — social media, streaming, news, podcasts…
So shouldn’t boredom be disappearing?
Turns out, it’s the opposite.
Because when we’re constantly stimulated, our brains adapt.
We become less comfortable with stillness.
Our attention becomes fragmented.
And passive scrolling often leaves us feeling occupied… but under-fulfilled.
âś… The paradox:
The more stimulation we have, the more bored we become.
Real engagement — conversation, movement, creativity, meaningful work — has been replaced by passive consumption.
And that’s where true boredom comes from: lack of depth, not lack of content.
So how do we reset?
One of the simplest antidotes is nature.
Time outside gives our brains space to recover, slow down, and think more deeply.
In nature, boredom becomes possibility — space for reflection, curiosity, new ideas.
It’s a reminder that:
🌳Less scrolling.
🌳More doing.
🌳More nature.
🌳More life.
