A bit of Throwback Thursday....

One so tiny and butter would not melt in the mouth.
The other with the slight grin and eyes that have you worried! 😁

Meet Larry everyone.

In baby form Larry was the perfect gentleman. As skippedy-do as lambs can get. We recall fondly the bottle feeds and the finger suckles. We remember the playful jumps as Larry and his friends gamed the same as lambs of today.

Larry was always a leader, never a follower. Even as a youngster the other lambs would succumb to Larry's leadership qualities. This trait would never leave. Instead, it would follow Larry into current day.

Along his path Larry would have many worried as he grew and grew into quite the large boy. As a chief of sheep Larry would decide that his humour would be at the expense of humans! For one would never know the intentions of this woolly lad. Was he keen for a pat? Or was he up for a headbutt??

Yes, over his years Larry has had many volunteers too frightened to enter his lair! For if Larry felt even slightly comical or agitated you dare not turn your back or take your eyes from the bad boy! Only the founders of the sanctuary dared venture into Larry's home. Even then, a means of protection was planned well before entry!

But, with loving arms comes positive results. Larry, as he aged, grew more mature and mellow. Younger more agile sheep came along and took the mantle that Larry was happy enough to relinquish. And today we have a 10 year old boy who no longer lives for fight and fright. Now, Larry still looks at you with those mischievous eyes, but his intentions are decidedly pure. No more headbutts, no more scares. Everyone is welcome and Larry is truly the sweetest of aging men.

10 years is a long time in sheep speak. And we declare, despite the initial roughness and hazard, we wouldn't change our relationship with Larry one bit. For it has been his life his way and Larry has provided so many laughs and exquisite memories. 💚

It's hump day, and yes, roosters love a cuddle midweek.

Roosters such as Dewey are so misconstrued. Thought by many to be vicious noisy timekeepers, the reality is they are anything but!

Crowing throughout the day and night, rather than just at sunrise as is the myth, these lovable feathered larrikins crow to communicate, warning of danger and reassuring their flock.

Roosters are also thought to be aggressive. Whilst some may be due to poor handling or genetics, the vast majority are sensitive, deeply devoted to protecting their flock, right down to sacrificing themselves to predators to keep their family safe.

Chickens are highly intelligent. This includes roosters! They can count, demonstrate self control, and recognise up to 30 or more fellow flock members and humans.

And, roosters get the bad wrap over and over about their apparent aggressiveness. But, their job is to care for a flock and they will frequently find food, calling the hens over and let them eat before touching any themselves.

Flock size and space will see roosters happily cohabitate, living together peacefully and without issue. And, just like Dewey, roosters can fall in love with humans, snuggling tight and sitting eagerly within one's arms for as long as the human stands idle.

So, on this hump day we salute the beauty that is the rooster. We rejoice in their wonder and celebrate all of the misunderstood boys.

Hug yourself a rooster! You will be all the better for it! 🐓

"A miracle sometimes takes a while to form. Strength, where there was none, needs time to build. But, with belief there is no strength, nor any miracle, that cannot be achieved."- Darren Appleby.

Little Sunshine is progressing so well it is emotionally beautiful. This miracle girl took possession of her brand new mobility cart recently, purchased from our friends at Handicapped Pets Australia right here in Adelaide. You may recall our other cart, purchased from the same company? Sunshine's cart is an exact replica only smaller to fit her little body.

This cart will aid in building muscle and strength for Sunshine. Utilising her four legs like never before will give Sunshine a workout and freedom of moving.

Taking turns in and out of the cart we notice the benefits immediately. Stronger legs mean stronger and more stable strides whilst Sunshine's pace accelerates undoubtedly.

Recently we worked on Sunshine's hooves. Correcting months of neglect saw pain relief and the will and want to jump to her feet. Whilst Sunshine remains on periodical medication she is achieving most of this herself.

Miracles have a way of finding those in need. There is no greater than Sunshine.

Bless her pretty little heart. She is with strength, determination, and surrounded by love.

Sunshine's tables have justifiably turned! 🌞

Domino & Moo-Moo - the twins of affection. The cuddlers of joy!

You know these two wonderfully fantastic pair! Rescued from the pages of Scumtree, a publication that should NOT be permitted to sell animals (particularly farm animals) due to the miscreants who search seeking them. Luckily, finding their way to paradise both Domino & Moo-Moo proceeded to establish themselves in two ways.

Firstly, it was their devotion to one another. Their water tight bond that highlighted their family.

Secondly, both would endear themselves to an entire sanctuary with their unconditional love mixed with a definite penchant for pats and cuddles.

Well, now Domino & Moo-Moo have hit the 1 1/5 year mark and leave us to fulfil their life's destiny. Moving not too far from Furever Farm both the boys depart to instill their genuine love unto a new family. There, waiting, will be a boy sheep who recently lost his best friend. Domino & Moo- Moo will take up that missing space, befriending a forlorn bub in need of friendship.

We just know both will make us proud. How could they not? Domino & Moo-Moo are simply delightful and as near to perfect as one can get.

Farewell, sweethearts. We will all miss you.

Brock - the shy reserved and slightly frightened little soul has found safery.

Discovered in a paddock all alone without a mumma, Brock simply couldn't be left to his own devices. This paddock was inhabited with foxes just waiting for a baby such as this.

Thankfully two kind people would see that no harm came to such a pretty little head. Into Furever Farm this boy would go where no such danger exists. Secure and now with a new family of brothers and sisters, Brock can settle and emerge from his shell at his leisure.

We are sure that Brock's fright will subdue, his reservations deminish. Like many many other lambs before him Brock will eventually be running and playing to his hearts content!

A goat is not just a goat.

Yes, a goat is highly intelligent. They are super curious and definitely a herd animal. With an agility exceptionally nimble, they can jump heights of over 1.5 meters, especially to reach desired foliage.

We could truly keep going about a goats characteristic and their amazing skills. When we speak of such wonderfulness we care not for perfection. For goats dont wish for such. Rather, they seek happiness for themselves and their herd family.

Nat is, we feel, the perfect example of, well, near perfection! Despite her having only three limbs, Nat exemplifies the stoic nature of this species. Nat had her rear leg removed after painful and irreparable damage to her hoof and lower leg. We remember the process as if yesterday. Trying to save a limb, but as this became an impossibility, sitting with and explaining the situation to this gorgeous lady.

Did we mention resilience?

Goats are such, and Nat would emerge from her surgery without a care in the world. Springing straight to her hooves and traversing as if never having had her fourth limb at all. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Nat, from that day on, bound the earth with absolute indifference. Not troubled at all, she would re-establish herself with her mob and show that difference means nothing. In fact, Nat believed that difference makes the ideal perfection.

Still very much mobile and distinct, Nat lives a life of goat happiness. Her age seems endless as she truly never seems to grey, and her agility....Nat is as fast and nimble as a teenager!

Nat. The goat-iest goat of them all. Looks a plenty and a wise head to behold. 🐐

Queeny - aha! Look at her go. This Queen is right up confident, slightly crazy and doesn't mind keeping a very close eye on everyone.

For all her quirkiness, Queeny is delightful and rule is not her aim. Preferably Queeny loves to get up close and personal with the inhabitants, feathered and human!

There are loads of pats and cuddles coming Queeny's way, we can just see it. A good eye to eye chat is beckoning as well. Queeny has found the right place for Royal jokes and tender touch.
