Sunday arvo soil testing. All checked and a mark of herd approval givenπŸ‘
Regular testing reveals signs of ecosystem health on the land so we can see what management approaches work or otherwise might need adjustment to stay on a regeneration path. We look at everything from ground cover and plant roots, to soil structure, chemistry and creepy crawly capability. This is our 3rd year of testing and reassuring signs of resilience are showing up everywhere in the absence of chemical and mechanical disturbance. We probably need a few more years of data for a reliable positive trend ... just as well long game is our mantra round here. Besides there's worse jobs on a beautiful day like this!

Taking advantage of the beautiful & welcome late summer rain to get some acacia seedlings into our living fire breaks. This variety (A. victoriae) is low oil with dense foliage shelter and canopy to support other green groundcover underneath. Its seeds also make magic flavoured nutrient sprinkles for just about any dish - raw, milled or roasted (hazelnutty). We had some hopeful onlookers, they'll have to wait a while to partake in this particular bushtucker πŸ™‚

Polarisation on social media lately has made long breaks as much about necessity as saving focus for what really matters in life. Like spoken conversation, common ground underfoot and time to appreciate the kids' colourful (as yet still relatively unAI-d) perspectives on the "real world" πŸ€“β˜οΈ
We were lucky enough to hear Rachael Ward speak recently in Adelaide, where among much other profound sensibility, she simply and unapologetically stated a value: To eat meat. No explanation or justification, just the reasonable expectation we all afford each other the basic respect and equal opportunity to live life with integrity. She went on to say both human right and responsibility to gain appropriate nutrition ethically - in its truest sense, consciously and sustainably - lies with every one of us.
Bloody hard that's become in this day and age for sure, but yes... true dat.

Celebrating the less conventional Valentine's blooms today πŸ’“ We nurture variety, for steady, dependable nutrition and habitat, whatever the seasons throw. Growth may be subtle and non-linear, but maturing all the same into managable momentum as the years go by. The real beauty in a human relationship with nature is that only in genuine partnership does either really flourish. Love that lasts the distance - or in economist speak, "$ustainable productivity" - simply can't be achieved any other way.Β

To a junk artist and cowgirl this masterpiece channeled incredible energy yesterday. We've strolled, biked, jogged, waved and just idly stopped to say hey before. But this time something about her stance felt so...contemporary. Spark plug udders and the face of resistance. Yes Honey, something does feel different. Maybe, just maybe, that tide is turning.Β

Amazing piece by James Stewart and Tracey Grivell at The Ratalang.

Can you spot the rainbow bee-eater? 🌈🐝 (Hint..his ninja mask isnt disguising him) This dreamboat likely has a mate tucked away on a brood somewhere nearby. They nest in metre-long underground tunnels, just perfect for a predicted 44C day...πŸ₯΅

This...πŸ€—

The planet isn’t saved by one person doing everything.
It’s cared for by many people doing what they can, together.

Neighbours sharing skills, families planting gardens, friends noticing wildlife, communities protecting rivers and forests
these small, everyday actions build resilience and hope.

When we work together, we grow stronger, kinder, and more connected
and the world thrives.

Happy Song for community moments:

Golden hour

08/01/2026

Party time for the young'uns at happy hour after another slow cooking 41.5c today. The cattle have extra flexibility in extreme heat to choose the shadiest chill spots as the sun moves. We'll go back to small temporary paddocks again for higher impact as soon as conditions allow.Β
