We pack houses for a living. But a box of old photos has a way of reminding you it was never just a house.

It’s easy to forget that on a normal day. We’re wrapping glasses, taping boxes, ticking off rooms. Boxes and belongings, going from one place to another.

Then we find a box of photos at the back of a cupboard — full of birthdays, school days, pets who aren’t around anymore.

An outfit you’re glad stayed in the 90s.

We hand them over and understand. That’s when the boxes stop mattering and the memories inside them do.

We packed a linen cupboard last month that held a set of sheets from a daughter’s old bedroom, folded the way they’d been folded for fifteen years. The lovely lady told us they needed to come with her to the new home — they would never be used, never unfolded, but never let go of either. That set of sheets was her physical connection to a daughter she hasn’t seen in many years, and won’t see again. Nothing more needed to be said. We wrapped them carefully, placed them in the linen box, and kept packing.

This is the part of the job we take seriously — not just the boxes, but what’s tucked inside them. A home holds more than furniture. We treat it that way.

Kate arrived at an unpack last week to find the client had placed sticky notes around her house before we even arrived — not because we asked, but because she’d been quietly planning this move for months and knew exactly where she wanted her items to go.

Some clients want us to make every decision. Others have already made every decision and just need the hands. Both are exactly the kind of job we love — we work with people not the space.

This is how Relok8 like to unpack and organise your pantry. Not necessarily the “right way” — but it’s our way.

We start with the coffee and tea station, near the mugs and close to the kettle — because that’s the corner everyone gravitates to first. Breakfast items go together: cereal, spreads, everything you reach for without thinking in the morning.

Baking gear gets its own zone — flour, sugar, baking trays, mixing bowls — grouped so nothing’s hunted for halfway through a recipe. Staples like flour, sugar, oils and tinned essentials find a permanent shelf. And dinner basics — rice, pasta, sauces together .
