Another King's Birthday weekend means another fantastic GWS Jamborette for 1st St Andrews Scouts. Thanks so much to GWSR Scouts for hosting us for the third year in a row. Our Scouts join about 1000 other Scouts from across GWS and across NSW for a weekend packed with fun. Both our patrols managed to complete all 28 available bases throughout the weekend. Loads of fun, beautiful days and chilly nights and many core memories formed. Already looking forward to next year!

Scouting has moved with the times in many ways, but navigation and orienteering remain as important skills our Scouts learn. On Tuesday our Scouts learned how to orientate a map, take a bearing and how to read a paper map.

It was also fun to compare a 2025 local area map to a 2012 map and notice that some of the suburbs our Scouts now live in didn’t even exist in 2012!

At 1st St Andrews, we are fortunate to have an amazing team of volunteers. From our fantastic Leaders to our dedicated and driven Parent Committee, right through to our Parent Helpers, our volunteers are the force that keeps us running smoothly. Without our devoted volunteers we wouldn't be able to run our amazing youth program.

During this National Volunteer Week we would like to say THANK YOU to our volunteers from all of us at 1st St Andrews 💙🤎🤍

A nice Sunday morning bushwalk for the Joeys and a Cub . We walked to down to Freres Crossing and explored around the river crossing for a while before walking back up the hill. Everyone had a lot of fun and this was some of their first times on hike. It was good to see our cub sharing his experience with helping to lead the walk and supporting the newer Joeys.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful Scouting mums and mum figures. 💐

All of our sections celebrated our mums this week. Our Joeys and Cubs made coconut ice and biccies for our mums and our Scouts created hedgehog slice WITH their mums AND cleaned up before teaming up with their mums and playing some games.

The weather is getting cooler (although it’s still warm for May) and that means it’s perfect for campfires - and competitive campfires are even better. Our Scouts were tasked with creating a 2m flammable trail to act as a wick, leading to a campfire 🔥 they created earlier. It was a tricky task, but we had some success and even better - we then got to toast marshmallows and make s’mores! 😋

Muggles and Wizards alike had a magical time at our Hogwarts 🧙Family Camp at Bent's Basin. Our Prefects (Scouts) ran the classes (bases) for their fellow Scouts, Joeys, Cubs, Venturers, parents and siblings. After all of our 60+ students were sorted into their Houses and were issued with their House Scarf and House Woggle, we spent the weekend in classes for Potions🧪, Broomstick Racing🧹, Charms🪄, Herbology🪴, Transfiguration✨, Defence Against the Dark Arts 🪬, Triwizard Tournament 🏆, Ministry of Magic 🔮, Care of Magical Creatures 🦄and of course Quidditch 🧙‍♀️.

The themeing was brilliant for the weekend, with house tables and decorations, the sorting chair and hat, platform 9 and 3/4s and many of our students dressed up in their wizarding finest.

It was a great opportunity for our parents to see what our Scouts normally get up to on a camp and experience all the fun for themselves. There are already plans underway for next year's camp...we're feeling that the force might be strong for our next family camp🚀

Research by Resilient Youth Australia has compared a national sample of Australian Scouts aged 8-18 with 110,000 of their peers. The result: Scouts generally feel more Connected, Protected and Respected. This means better mental health and a host of other advantages.

Scout Groups throughout Macarthur currently have vacancies in all sections from Joeys (ages 5-8) through to Venturers (ages 15-17), and everything in between.

All groups offer free trials of up to four weeks. The start of the school year is the perfect time to give Scouts a try as our first terms are full of great activities such as camping, bushwalking and bushcraft. Reach out through https://www.scoutsnsw.com.au/join-scouts or send us a message for more information.

We hope to see you soon!
