🌱 Building Soil Community | World Soil Day Networking Event

Curious to learn more about soil biology and the important role healthy soils play in our agricultural and natural environments?

Join local South Australian researchers, practitioners and industry experts for a special networking event celebrating World Soil Day at the Waite Campus on Thursday 3 December, from 10am–3pm.

Featuring speakers and demonstrations from organisations including CSIRO, Flinders University, the University of Adelaide, SARDI, Soils for Life, PIRSA and more, the day will explore a range of fascinating topics, from soil microbiology and regenerative agriculture to soil health, disease, education and viticulture.

Expect an interactive day of demonstrations, conversations and opportunities to connect with experts, share experiences and ask questions.

Growers, advisors, extension staff, students and anyone with an interest in soil are encouraged to attend!

🏆 Australian Government Sustainable Agriculture Landcare Award & Australian Government Community Partnerships Landcare Award 🏆

We’re delighted to celebrate Dr Mary Retallack and the National EcoVineyards Program as winners of both awards at the 2026 South Australian Landcare Awards!

Through EcoVineyards, Mary champions an ecological approach to viticulture that brings productive farming and environmental restoration together. By helping vineyard growers nurture soil health, restore biodiversity and build more resilient farming systems, the program is demonstrating how agriculture can work hand in hand with nature. 🌱

As Mary shares, “An ecological approach isn’t an add-on to farming; it’s fundamental to its future.”

The program also recognises the importance of connection, bringing growers and communities together to share knowledge, embrace regenerative practices and create a healthier legacy for future generations.

🏆 Australian Government Landcare Innovation Award 🏆

We’re delighted to celebrate the Mid Murray Landcare SA’s Dark Sky Committee at the 2026 South Australian Landcare Awards!

Their forward-thinking work to protect the Mid Murray region’s exceptionally dark skies is a wonderful example of how grassroots groups can make a big impact. With scientific data confirming a sky darkness rating of 21.9 out of 22, their efforts highlight the importance of protecting this remarkable natural asset.

As Chris Tugwell shared on the night, “You don’t have to be big to have a big impact.”

The committee’s achievement reflects not only their vision and dedication, but also the power of community collaboration, with local residents contributing an extraordinary number of letters in support of their Dark Sky application.

It’s been just over a week since we came together in Murray Bridge for the 2026 State Landcare Conference, and we’re still reflecting on what a special event it was! 💚

From inspiring speakers and thought-provoking sessions to meaningful conversations, new connections and celebrating the incredible achievements of our Landcare community, the weekend was a wonderful reminder of what we can achieve when we grow strong together.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, our fantastic speakers and presenters, our generous sponsors, and everyone who helped bring the conference to life. Your time, knowledge, passion and generosity made it such a memorable event.

We also loved celebrating the outstanding individuals, groups and projects recognised at the 2026 South Australian Landcare Awards. 🏆

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be shining a spotlight on this year’s award winners and sharing more about the inspiring work they’re doing to care for our land, biodiversity and communities.

Reminder: Environmental Grief Support Group

Environmental and social change can bring up a lot of feelings: grief, anxiety, anger, sadness, overwhelm, helplessness, or simply a sense that something is out of balance.

LASA wants to support our members holistically, and this includes providing opportunities to learn how to care for yourselves while continuing to care for the environment. We take this seriously and are running a webinar in partnership with the Hills Environment Centre.

It's a community support circle centred on reflection, honest conversation, connection and mutual care, without judgement or pressure to have all the answers.

Sessions may include guided mindfulness and grounding, small-group conversations, personal reflection, collective listening and practical wellbeing strategies.

The Australian Association for Environmental Education SA Chapter brings together educators, students, environmental managers, community groups and conservation organisations to support Education for Sustainability across South Australia.

By building knowledge, skills and connections, AAEE-SA is helping empower people to understand their environment and take action for its wellbeing. 🌿

Because sometimes the first step in caring for our environment is simply learning more about it!
