We had powerful performances from Woodville High School's Chamber Strings and Senior Choir, Voice of Lele, and Farhan Shah & Sufi Oz bringing a debut song to the event.

A huge thank you to our wonderful MC Elizabeth Ho OAM, Deputy Chair of AMRC for guiding us through a packed program, and to every organiser who submitted an event. Together we've brought a record of over 115 events across South Australia into this year's SA Refugee Week calendar.

Walking together starts with listening.

As part of Reconciliation Week, AMRC staff reflect on spending time with Jack Buckskin, a proud Kaurna, Narungga and Wirangu man, founder of Kuma Kaaru and a respected educator dedicated to sharing and revitalising Kaurna language and culture.

The experience created space for learning, truth-telling and connection, reminding us that reconciliation is strengthened when First Nations and multicultural communities come together with openness, respect and shared commitment.

A MILLION THANK YOUS: Voices of Gratitude from Our Communities

As part of SA Refugee Week 2026 and this year’s theme, A Million Stories, we invite your community to contribute to a special project celebrating gratitude, belonging, and the many journeys that enrich South Australia.

We warmly encourage your community to contribute 10 short messages of gratitude to be shared with guests at the official SA Refugee Week Launch on Friday, 12 June 2026.

Whether expressing thanks to Australia, the people who offered support, your community, or reflecting on hope, kindness, and belonging, each message will help tell the story of the diverse voices that make our state stronger and more connected.

Together, these voices will create a powerful tribute to the spirit of Refugee Week and the theme “A Million Stories.”

We would be honoured to include your community’s voice.

Please submit your messages by 5 June via the A Million Thank Yous online form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/QWnqJCfKS8

Thank you for helping us bring this shared story of gratitude to life.

Shaping Wellbeing Together

What an inspiring and meaningful week.
On Wednesday, in partnership with Preventive Health SA , we brought together community members, organisations, service providers and stakeholders for the AMRC Wellbeing Hub Co-Design Workshop.

The workshop created space for important conversations around wellbeing, prevention, connection and belonging for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Together, we explored emerging wellbeing priorities, barriers and opportunities impacting communities, strengths-based and culturally responsive approaches, and future ideas and aspirations for the AMRC Wellbeing Hub.

One of the strongest messages emerging throughout the day was the importance of listening, collaboration and community voice in shaping more inclusive and connected wellbeing approaches.

Preparing the soil for something meaningful to grow together. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and insights to the conversation bringing renewed hope and energy to address a growing need.

Special thanks to the Preventive Health Team for their partnership in developing a very meaningful program.

Less than 10 days left to register your event for SA Refugee Week!
Refugee Week is a chance to celebrate the contributions, stories, and richness that people from refugee and migrant backgrounds bring to our communities.

Looking for simple ways to get involved?
- Dedicate a school assembly to a student story of refugee or migrant background
- Start a conversation at your next staff meeting about this year’s theme "A Million Stories"
- Invite a colleague to share their journey
Share stories and culture through food, music, or a simple cup of tea
- Connect with Australian Migrant Resource Centre to organise a guest speaker or if you need assistance with a venue etc.

In a time when global events can create fear and misunderstanding, it’s more important than ever to pause.

Take a moment to reflect on the people around you.
The cultures we learn from.
The stories we hear.
The food, language, and traditions we experience every day.

This is the strength and richness of our community, shaped over time and rooted in the world’s oldest continuing cultures, over 65,000 years old, right here in our own backyard.

Register your Refugee Week event TODAY and be part of something meaningful. The calendar is filling fast, do not miss out. https://amrc.org.au/sa-refugee-week/

There’s something powerful happening across South Australia right now. AFL Gather Round, an incredible initiative by the SA Government, shows just how powerful it can be when people from all walks of life come together in Adelaide around a shared passion.

In that spirit, SA Refugee Week creates space for connection in a different way - bringing people together through stories, culture, and shared experiences that reflect the richness of our community.

The 2026 SA Refugee Week Calendar of Events is now OPEN for registrations. Events are already rolling in, and we don’t want you to miss your chance to be included in a program that is widely shared across the state.

This year is truly special. We mark:
- 40 years of Refugee Week in Australia
- The theme “A Million Stories”
- And a global milestone —75 years since the 1951 Refugee Convention

Behind every culture, every face, every community, there is a story of resilience, courage, and hope. And this is your chance to help bring those stories to life.

Whether it’s a cultural celebration, community gathering, food event, sports event, listening to the story of a colleague, a student, a friend, holding a workshop or a performance, big or small, your event can:
- Bring people together across backgrounds
- Celebrate the richness of our diverse cultures
- Spark understanding and connection
- Strengthen the community we all share

Every June, more than 140 groups across SA create moments that connect thousands of people. This year, make sure your event is one of them.

Registrations close Friday, 24 April 2026.

Don’t miss out on being part of a calendar that reaches communities right across South Australia.
