Speaking up for older Australians ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Last week, our General Manager โ€“ Service Delivery, Suzanna Robertson, travelled to Parliament House in Canberra with aged care providers from across the country. Together, they met with politicians, including the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, to talk about what older people need from the aged care system.

The message was simple: older Australians deserve care thatโ€™s properly funded, now and into the future.

Thank you to Ageing Australia for bringing the sector together.

Today we celebrated Mental Health Week with Thrive Fest, a free community day at Swan View Youth Centre, with stalls, music, food and games.

Luke from our Youth Services team said the day was about raising awareness of mental health in the community. "Having all the stallholders here shows the community that support is out there and how to access it."

For Jackie, one of the people we support, the sensory room was a highlight. "When I went in there my hands were shaking because I've been a bit stressed, but instantly I took a breath and all that negativity and tension left."

We've supported Graeme for about 10 years. He said, "It's good to find out what services are around to help us in our daily life, and I've been able to catch up with people I haven't seen for about a year."

Thank you to everyone who came along, to our partners who ran stalls and helped make the day happen, and to the Western Australian Association for Mental Health for funding the day as part of Mental Health Week 2026.

Caroline Beales has been named a finalist for Dementia Change Champion of the Year ๐Ÿ’™

Members of the Rise team recently attended the 12th Dementia Symposium, hosted by Alzheimer's WA, where the announcement was made. It's well-deserved recognition for Caroline's passion and advocacy for people living with dementia, their families and carers. Congratulations, Caroline!

It was a great day of learning, too. We heard about WA's new State Dementia Action Plan and the "Home Remains Home" campaign, and heard directly from carers about their experiences.

Trev and his dragon๐Ÿ‰

Trevor has been a familiar face at the Rise Arts Hub for over four years, and his latest creation is this vibrant wood-burned dragon.

Trev enjoys the art as much as the company โ€” he's always keen for a chat with fellow members, and he loves making pieces to share with his friends and family.

๐Ÿ’œ Today is Wear it Purple Day!

This year's theme, Colours of Courage, is a reminder that bravery doesn't always look loud.

At Rise, we're proud to stand with our LGBTIQA+ team members, the people we support, and their families. Their courage, quiet and loud, helps shape a Rise that's safer, more welcoming, and more inclusive for everyone.

However you're marking the day, whether it's a purple shirt, a purple lanyard, or just starting a conversation, thank you for showing up for our rainbow community.
