To kick off the spring season, residents and staff at McNamara Lodge took part in a Creative Expression activity, dressing up in costumes, trying different accessories and posing for photos.

The McNamara Lifestyle team set up a themed photo studio for everyone to enjoy, and the photos are now on display in the McNamara foyer for residents, families and visitors to see.

Activities like these give residents the opportunity to express themselves, try something different and take part in activities that support their wellbeing.

Take a look at the photos of our glamorous residents striking their best poses!📸

When John Ledder moved into one of our Aged Care Facilities recently, he brought with him an incredible sporting history.

At 23, John represented Australia in rowing at the 1960 Rome Olympics, after helping the WA crew win the King’s Cup. Forty years later, he carried the Olympic Torch, with his wife Rosemary, through Midland as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch Relay.

Now beginning a new chapter at raafa, John continues to share his passion for sport and the lessons he has learnt along the way.

“Do something you enjoy. If you don’t like what you’re doing, get out and find something you do like. Enjoy your sport and follow your passion.”

We’re delighted to welcome John and Rosemary to raafa and share a small part of John’s remarkable story with our community. 💙

McNamara Lodge resident Cynthia recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends and fellow residents.

Born and raised in Western Australia, Cynthia has enjoyed a wonderfully active and social life, from playing hockey, tennis and golf to taking up lawn bowls and making friends across the countryside.

Her centenary celebration brought together around 30 family members, along with friends and RAAFA residents – including a special reunion with a longtime friend from Narrogin.

With three children, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Cynthia has built a life filled with family, friendship and plenty of wonderful memories. đź’™

Happy 100th birthday, Cynthia! 🥳

Today marks two years of raafa operating Sir Valston Hancock House for Veterans in need. Since our first resident arrived in July 2024, we’ve provided more than 5,700 nights of safe accommodation and support to veterans, from under 40 to 77 years old.

For every veteran who walks through the doors, Sir Valston Hancock House is about more than a place to stay. It’s a place to find stability, support and a path forward.

As we prepare to expand this model to new locations, your support can help more veterans access the services they need to rebuild their lives. You can donate here today: https://dpgo.io/veterans

World Alzheimer’s Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and show support for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and carers.

At raafa, we know that every person’s experience with dementia is different. Creating communities where people feel safe, respected, supported and connected is an important part of the care we provide.

We recognise the people living with dementia and the families, carers, volunteers and healthcare professionals who support them every day. Together, we can help build greater understanding and create communities where everyone continues to feel a sense of belonging.

On R U OK? Day last week, our staff and residents took some time to come together, check in with one another and remind each other that no one has to go through things alone.

Whether it’s a quick chat over a cuppa, a friendly hello in the hallway or taking the time to really ask someone how they’re going — connection matters.

Thank you to everyone who helped make R U OK? Day a meaningful one across our communities.

Against the backdrop of the Lancaster Bomber at the raafa Aviation Heritage Museum, more than 60 veterans, members, volunteers and guests gathered on 2 September to commemorate the Battle for Australia.

Led by MC Air Force Association (WA Division) Vice-President, Air Vice-Marshal Andrew Dowse AO (Retd), the moving ceremony honoured those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War, with a wreath laid and crosses placed in remembrance and the Last Post providing a poignant moment of reflection.

Held among the aircraft and stories preserved at the Museum, the commemoration was a meaningful reminder of the importance of remembering those who served — and preserving their stories for generations to come.

Lest we forget. 🌺
