Our customers, their family members, and our Support Workers recently came together for a wonderful day of creativity, laughter, and connection.

What began as an idea from our customers soon grew into a meaningful group activity, creating cherished moments for everyone involved.

“𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.”

That is what Antony, Interchange WA Support Worker in our Spearwood Neighbourhood, says drives him after more than twelve years at Interchange. His consistency showed up in the biggest way one night, when he gently convinced a customer to seek urgent hospital treatment, and consistently checked on him throughout his three-week stay so he knew he was not alone.

That's what being a great Interchanger is all about. Being there in the critical moments, then continuing to show up with the same care, compassion and consistency long after the crisis has passed.

𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄

Important changes are rolling out across the NDIS, and they may affect your supports, funding, or future planning.

✅ New registration requirements are now in place for Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers, including updated claiming processes.

✅ More flexibility for participants in shared accommodation from 1st July through Program of Supports. This can be used for daily personal activity support for up to six months. ndis.gov.au/news/11594-more-flexibility-participants-shared-accommodation

✅ NDIS participants can now help shape the future of planning by taking part in paid testing of the new planning process between July and December 2026. Participation is voluntary and will not affect current or future plans.

What happens when a young person is given the chance to pursue what they love?

For Marc, it led to a job in the automotive industry, growing confidence, and a future he's excited about. With the right support and opportunities, Marc transformed his passion for cars into meaningful employment. His journey is a reminder of what's possible when young people are empowered to pursue their interests and believe in their potential.

For Josh, it meant finding a career that gave him a sense of purpose and direction. With determination, the support of his team, and a step-by-step plan, he gained new skills, secured a job he genuinely enjoys, and grew into a confident workplace leader.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate young people like Marc and Josh who are discovering their strengths, pursuing their dreams, and creating their own path forward.

Anyone can use a defibrillator. Once you open one up, it has voiced instructions to guide you through each step, so even someone inexperienced but willing to help can save a life.

But knowing how to use one beforehand can save time and give you the confidence to use it in an emergency. That’s why our Interchange WA Support Workers have been training to use defibrillators on Anne, our helpful CPR dummy.

It’s a team effort. The hand on Anne covers the chest where one person would be providing continuous CPR, while another person attaches the defibrillator pads. With the joint work between the three of them, they passed with flying colours.

Loneliness and social inclusion are critical issues faced by People with Disability, who often experience higher rates of social isolation compared to people without disability.

That’s why we’d like to acknowledge Loneliness Awareness Week. Starting on August 3rd in Australia, this week is a call to action for people to make an effort in connecting with one another, because connection doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because we create room for each other to talk, gather, and spend quality time together.

In the spirit of Loneliness Awareness Week, tag someone in the comments you haven’t seen in a while and plan a catch-up. Togetherness happens because we make it happen.

From Interns to Impact 👏

As Interchange WA continues to evolve and strengthen the way we support our customers and staff, we're proud to recognise the contribution of two outstanding UWA interns, Raymond and Arshad.

Joining us during a significant transition to our new operational system, they quickly went from learning the ropes to becoming valuable members of the project team. Their support in helping transition data and processes for nearly 300 customers and over 350 staff demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a genuine willingness to make a difference.

Our partnership with the University of Western Australia Internship Program continues to show the value of creating meaningful real-world experiences for students while bringing fresh perspectives and talent into our organisation.

A huge thank you to Raymond and Arshad for embracing the challenge and supporting Interchange WA through this important period of change. We wish you both every success in your future careers.
