Chris Kringle’s Top 5 New Films/Specials of 2025 🎄

A Very Jonas Christmas Movie
Taking a leaf out of I’ll Be Home for Christmas, the very loveable Jonas Brothers trapped far away from home, racing against the clock to get home for a Christmas and to rediscover their brotherly bon. Capers matched with some signature Jonas style music make for an extremely fun, tongue in cheek ride. A great family one with some catchy music

My Secret Santa
In what is essentially a festive Mrs Doubtfire, single mum Taylor is seeking money to send her daughter to a snowboarding academy takes a job as the resort’s Santa Claus, adopting an elaborate disguise. The resort’s general manager in waiting starts to develop feelings for Taylor and a liking for Santa. Shenanigans ensue! This is great family fun. Very likeable characters and a wonderful story and message about love at Christmas. Highly recommend this one!

Man vs Baby
After Man vs Bee several years back (where the episodes were far too short), Rowan Atkinson returns in a Mr Bean inspired festive treat. When he is accidentally charged with a baby after a school nativity, housesitter Trevor ends up having to look after it over Christmas in a high end London penthouse. What could possibly go wrong? Atkinson’s pitch perfect physical comedy and expression make this an absolute joy to watch. It’s predictable but laugh out loud funny and the addition of the Christmas setting makes it even better. Would it have been better as a longer series? Yes. Will I be watching it again? Yes. A sheer festive delight!

Tinsel Town
In this super fun one, a flailing Hollywood star takes up a role in a festive pantomime in England. What follows is a delightful combo of Christmas and the UK institution that is panto. Likeable characters and a whole load of festive fun. Kiefer Sutherland does a wonderful job in this one which is a great watch!

Matt Rife Unwrapped
A disclaimer from the outset, Matt Rife’s humour is very adult and won’t be for everyone due to its very non PC nature. But that is unashamedly him. The Ohio based comedian films this unique special in Arizona where he relies on audience stories and experiences from their own Christmas’ in this comedy meets talk show. The way he works a crowd is effortless and his razor sharp improv is very good. This is a festive special for those who want a bit of adult humour for the holidays. It’s crude but very funny. Don’t come into this one if you’re easily offended however

Birthday- Abbott Elementary
Watch On: Disney+
Score: 9/10

Not as much a Christmas episode but a holiday themed one which sees Abbott’s Winter Holiday show thrown into chaos as the school’s furnace causes significant damage. The trademark humour of this witty show is ever present and it is a wonderful mid season wrap episode.

The Man Who Invented Christmas
Watch On: SBS On Demand
Score: 10/10

This underrated gem continues to be my favourite Christmas film with an annual rewatch every Christmas Eve. The story of how Charles Dickens came to write A Christmas Carol is done in the most beautiful way with a heartwarming message and gorgeous aesthetics. A must every Christmas. If you haven’t come across it, this is my strongest recommendation.

Home Alone
Watch On: Disney+
Score: 10/10

Widely regarded as the definitive Christmas film in many households, the classic story of Kevin McAllister who is left behind by his family and must deal with not only being home alone but also the Wet Bandits and an elaborate series of b***y traps. It feels like Christmas and is such an iconic family film that it needs to be on the watch list for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Die Hard
Watch On: Disney+
Score: 10/10

One of the definitive Christmas movies which has caused many debates over its festive status. This aside, this Christmas Eve set action thriller is just an absolute thrill ride of a movie. When terrorists take over Nakatomi Plaza led by Hans Gruber, it is up to NYPD’s John McLane to come to the rescue. It is pedal to the metal thrills with one of the most iconic good vs evil power struggles in movie history. Iconic and essential Christmas viewing every year!

Klaus
Watch On: Netflix
Score: 10/10

One of the most beautiful modern Christmas films which is destined to be a classic. Not only is the animation stunning, the story is a joy. When spoiled postman in training Jesper is sent to the remote island of Smeerensberg to establish a postal service, he lands in the middle of a centuries old feud between warring families. Upon the discovery of the mysterious Klaus, the magic of gift giving at Christmas is born. A truly wonderful family film with heart, warmth and so much joy.

Elf
Watch On: Stan or Netflix
Score: 10/10

Into classic territory now with just three days remaining and Elf has been and continues to be a must watch for families at Christmas. The story of Buddy the Elf who finds out he is human and travels to New York to find his Dad is timeless. One of the most quoteable films ever and so many iconic moments make this one a favourite of mine and many others. So much to love for all ages!
