🌟 A Celebration to Remember
From the moment we arrived at Springfield Central, the atmosphere was electric. Seeing the community come together to celebrate Pohela Boishakh with such pride and joy was a testament to the hard work BAB puts into this flagship event year after year.

Highlights of the day:

The Colors: The stunning traditional attire made the entire park look like a living canvas.

The Rhythms: The music and performances were captivating and showcased the deep soul of Bengali culture.

The Connection: It was wonderful to see people from all walks of life enjoying the festivities and sharing in the "Boishakhi Mela" spirit.

A massive thank you to the organizers and volunteers for the warm invitation and for hosting such a seamless, family-friendly celebration. It was an honor to be part of the festivities and to celebrate our rich multicultural tapestry together.

Honouring Our Ancestors: Girmit Remembrance Day
Today, May 14, the Deo Family Charitable Foundation in Brisbane joins the global Fiji-Indian community in solemn remembrance and deep gratitude.147 years ago, the first ship, the Leonidas, arrived in Fiji. It carried our ancestors—the Girmitiyas—into a life of immense hardship and sacrifice. Yet, through gruelling labour, they forged an unbreakable legacy of resilience, culture, and community solidarity that thrives across the world today. As a foundation dedicated to service, their spirit of uplifting one another remains our ultimate inspiration. We bow our heads in respect to their memory. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Lest We Forget. 🌹

GIRMIT LEGACY TO BE HONOURED THROUGH SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS

A special series of commemorative stamps honouring the Girmitiyas will be launched during the 147th National Girmit Commemoration on Friday, 15 May 2026.

Designed to capture the journey, sacrifices, and contributions of the Girmitiyas, the stamps also recognise the traditions, culture, and heritage that continue to shape Fiji’s identity today.

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh said the initiative is especially meaningful for Fiji’s diaspora community, helping preserve an important chapter of Fiji’s history for future generations.

The national commemoration programme will be broadcast virtually from the Fiji Museum, allowing Fijians both locally and abroad to take part in celebrating the enduring legacy of the Girmitiyas.
