Imagine being told that, over time, you will lose the ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.

This is the reality for people living with Motor Neurone Disease. Yet many Queenslanders still don't know what MND is.

This Global MND Awareness Day, help change that.

Share this post and help more people understand MND.

People living with motor neurone disease (MND) don't have time to wait.

They need access to support, equipment, services and care when they need it—not months later. Because MND progresses quickly, delays can have a real impact on quality of life, independence and wellbeing.

This Global MND Awareness Day (June 21), we're raising our voices for:

✓ Greater awareness
✓ Better support
✓ Faster access to services
✓ Increased investment in research

Motor neurone disease doesn't wait.

Help us raise awareness of Queenslanders living with MND. They deserve better.

What an incredible day in Townsville.

On Sunday, our Walk to Defeat MND community came together with heart, hope and determination, raising more than $31,000 to support Queenslanders living with motor neurone disease.

Every person who donated, joined us, volunteered, shared the event or cheered someone on helped make this possible.

Your support helps provide practical care, equipment, guidance and advocacy for people living with MND, their families and carers.

Thank you, Townsville. Because motor neurone disease doesn’t wait, your support matters.

Until there’s a cure, there’s care.

💙 Last week was National Dietitians Week and we are very excited to share some wonderful news.

MND Queensland is pleased to welcome a Dietitian to our team 🥰

Nutrition plays an important role for many people living with motor neurone disease. Changes to swallowing, eating, energy levels, and weight can have a significant impact on comfort, wellbeing, and quality of life.

The addition of a Dietitian will strengthen the support available to people living with MND, their families, and carers, providing practical guidance and timely advice as needs change throughout the MND journey.

This new service was made possible by the generosity of our community during last year's appeal. Your support is helping us expand the services available to Queenslanders living with MND and continue helping people live better for longer with dignity, choice, and connection.

We're looking forward to introducing our newest team member and sharing more information about the service in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in accessing dietetic support, please contact our team at [email protected].

What a day for the Walk to Defeat MND Townsville. 💙

With beautiful weather, a fantastic turnout, and a sea of blue stretching along The Strand, our community came together to show their support for people living with motor neurone disease, their families, and carers.

Every person who joined us today helped raise awareness, spark conversations, and stand alongside Queenslanders impacted by MND.

Thank you to everyone who walked, volunteered, donated, and cheered from the sidelines. Your support helps MND Queensland provide practical support, experienced care, and advocacy for people living with MND across our state.

Because every day matters.

Until there's a cure, there's care.

💙 Thank you, Townsville.

Adjusting to changes to speech (dysarthria) can be hard for people living with MND and those around them. A new series of guides and practical tools about speech and communication has been developed in collaboration with MND Queensland, people living with MND, and their carers.

The series is designed to provide useful, expert guidance that reassures people and helps them prepare for and adjust to changes, and stay connected at every stage of the disease.

This webinar will provide an overview of dysarthria, the new resources, how they were developed, and how to use them in everyday life and clinical practice.

A huge thank you to the 125 people who joined us in Cairns over the weekend to support Queenslanders living with motor neurone disease.💙

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we raised more than $13,000 to help provide practical support, experienced care, dedicated services, and advocacy for people living with MND, their families, and carers.

Every dollar makes a difference. It helps us respond when people need support, equipment, information, and guidance because motor neurone disease doesn't wait.

To everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, fundraised, or supported the event in any way, thank you. We couldn't do this without you 😃

Together, we're helping Queenslanders in the Far North living with MND live better for longer.

When Ray was diagnosed with Bulbar Palsy MND in December 2025, Kathy says their world changed forever. After already losing a family member to MND, the diagnosis was devastating.

“We were gob smacked when the diagnosis came through,” Kathy shared.

Just 16 months earlier, Ray’s symptoms began with slurred speech. Today, he is unable to speak and relies on assistive technology to communicate.

“This is by far the hardest journey we have both been on,” Kathy said. “Just imagine the person you talk to every day is now unable to hold a conversation with you.”

Despite everything MND has taken, Ray and Kathy continue to face each day together with courage and determination. At this year’s Townsville Walk to Defeat MND, they are sharing their story to raise awareness and support for every family impacted by this devastating disease.

Please walk with us and support MND Queensland so no family faces MND alone. 💙
