JUST ANNOUNCED: Don Giovanni returns to Opera Queensland in 2027! 🎭

Don Giovanni wants everything, and everyone. In 1960s Spain, a country long sealed off under Franco is cracking open to new money, new freedoms and new ideas, and Giovanni rapaciously consumes every pleasure this moment offers.

Then a night of violence leaves a man dead, and the pleasures stop working. Chasing a high that no longer comes, Giovanni loses his grip on reality. When the dead man returns to demand his repentance, Giovanni refuses, even as hell opens beneath him. It is one of opera's most thrilling and unsettling finales.

Driven by Mozart's devastatingly charming music, this seductive and funny new production, directed by Patrick Nolan, asks whether it is possible to survive in a world without a moral centre.

Last month, Opera Queensland artist Susan Ellis facilitated a three-day workshop in Longreach, partnering with Clayfield College to help students develop their performance skills ahead of the Longreach School of Distance Education musical, Grossbusters showing at QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre this December.

Opera Queensland is proud to support arts education initiatives that foster creativity, nurture emerging talent and create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with the performing arts 🤍

Happy International Stage Management Day! 🎭

While audiences enjoy on stage magic, stage managers play a crucial role behind the scenes.

From calling cues and coordinating countless moving parts to keeping cast and crew on track, they are at the heart of every production.

Today, we're celebrating and thanking the extraordinary people who keep the show running from first rehearsal to the final curtain. 🤍
