NSW - IDAHOBIT

On 14 May, Pride in Law recognised the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia with a special event featuring a keynote speech and fireside chat with S*x Discrimination Commissioner Dr Anna Cody.

Hosted by our sponsors McCullough Robertson, we had the pleasure of hearing from Dr Cody about her distinguished career in advocacy, and her insights on her work in combating discrimination and inequality across the globe - how far we have come, as well as what the future might hold for LGBT+ legal professionals.

Thank you for joining us for an evening of reflection and conversation!

28 May is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

The day commenced in 2020 to mark the impact domestic and family violence has on the LGBTIQA+ community.

There’s no pride in domestic violence.

With high levels of domestic violence being experienced within LGBTIQA+ relationships and seriously low levels of reporting, Australia’s LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation is aiming to turn the tables.

Pride in Law joins with other organisations in standing in solidarity with victims and survivors of all kinds of abuse. We are stronger together.

Today we commemorate National Sorry Day which remembers and acknowledges the histories and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, those people belonging to “the Stolen Generation”.

National Sorry Day was first observed in 1998 a year after the handing down of the Bringing Them Home Report. This day reminds us, that truth telling, and knowing our history, will help us build the foundations for leaning and doing things differently for a better tomorrow.

SA - Law Week🧑‍⚖️

Pride in Law SA had a busy Law Week off the back of IDAHOBIT, starting by contributing to the over $200k raised at the JusticeNet SA Walk for Justice, where we took out the hotly contested ‘Best Dressed’ prize 🌈 capped off with hosting the Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG for the launch of Graham Loughlin’s book ‘Paris Nesbitt KC: Quixotic Counsel’.

The incomparable judge talked of his childhood growing up gay at a time when it was not only illegal but also classified as a mental illness, and how this double stigmatisation influences his approach to modern day justice. An inspiring week, with thanks to all our members who showed up loud and proud 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️
