A very engaging, educational and humorous presentation by our guest speaker this morning - Professor Kate Burridge on the English language and linguistics. Fantastic turnout from members and guests who thoroughly enjoyed the history of the English language and where we are potentially heading 🤔

Monthly meetings from 10am on the second Wednesday of each month with our speaker generally presenting from 10:45am.

Please note our speaker next month on August 12 will be from 10am as he has to leave early.

A very enjoyable and relaxing evening at Lion & Wombat yesterday for Happy Hour drinks. The $8 Sangiovese was very nice tho some moved onto Shiraz later in the evening. Excellent service from the staff and very pleasantly surprised to get 25% discount off our bill at the end of the night (thanks to John and his fifth booking here being a member). Great to have Rosemary be able to attend and we look forward to seeing her back at the club meeting next week. Lots of jokes and laughter and a couple of members wandered down to the newly re-opened Walrus afterwards to check it out 🍷

A very enjoyable lunch yesterday at Leo’s Spaghetti Bar. Great to engage with our members and support our local businesses. Happy Hour drinks next week and more activities planned for July.

The final song was a song they created for the referendum for Timor L’este’s independence - "Liberdade" (the Portuguese word for freedom) is the title of an iconic pro-independence anthem co-written by Paulie Stewart, frontman of the legendary Melbourne punk band ⁠Painters and Dockers. The song served as an unofficial anthem for Timor-Leste's liberation movement.

A very engaging presentation by Paulie Stewart at this week’s club meeting talking about his life and his connection to Timor L’este - his brother was one of the Balibo Five who were murdered in Timor L’este, his connection to the Cockroaches band who became the Wiggles, supporting the disabled and his family connection to the Saints ❤️🤍🖤 And at the end he and a fellow band member of the Painters and Dockers played us a few songs. Video in a separate post 🙏 Amazing man and so glad to meet him 👏👏👏

A very engaging presentation at our monthly Probus Club meeting this morning by Tony Thomas on his trip to Egypt and a visit to the new museum and the 3300-year-old tomb of the 19yo Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Great pics and videos.

A group of us met up at the Bowlo for the opening night of the St Kilda Blues Festival, where we saw Ezra Lee and his Boogie Woogie Band. They were awesome! We stayed to hear a bit more music, before deciding we were hungry. So we wandered down Fitzroy St and had delicious food and cocktails at La Bodega. That was followed by a walk along the Esplanade before everyone headed home. It was a beautiful night to be wandering around St Kilda. There is more free blues on Saturday and Sunday. If you're free, you should check it out!

A very enjoyable afternoon at Ellora (1 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda) for happy hour yesterday afternoon. A beautiful view and sunny weather make for a relaxing time chatting to fellow members. Always looking for new places to try so if you see any venues in the hood with happy hour, let us know so we can check them out.
