We are preparing to celebrate Probus Month in October alongside the 50th Anniversary of Probus - Fun and Friendship in Retirement in Australia. It is also Senior's month, so come along to the October meeting on Wednesday 14 October from 10am (the speaker starts at approx. 10:45am after morning tea). Our speaker in October is Leon Aloa, the Community Participation and Diversity Coordinator at St Kilda Football Club, who will present on the work the club is doing in the community to grow its brand and impact across all levels of community football.

The Community team manages various outreach, education, and inclusion initiatives across Bayside and greater southeast Melbourne, highlighted by programs such as Community Programs, SaintsPlay All Abilities, and the STK Academy.

Leon is also a member of the Sandringham Football Club and will enthral members and guests with his playing history.

We look forward to seeing you at the St Kilda Sports Club (aka the Bowlo) on the 14th October from 10am.

We currently have 45 members (not counting our two new members) so Mary kindly made a lemon tart to celebrate. Very yummy and quickly devoured 😋😋😋

A very entertaining presentation by Cr Serge Thomann at last Wednesday’s monthly meeting where the club also celebrated its 1 year anniversary having been inaugurated on 13 August 2025.

Serge delighted members and guests with his extensive array of photographs talking about his life as a photographer and stories from his interactions with all the many famous and iconic people he met along the way such as Michael Hutchence, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Mirka Mora (to name just a few).

It was also a pleasure to have Alan Hay (Probus District Chair and member of Malvern Probus Club) and Carole Gregson (Armadale Probus Club) join us to celebrate.

Thank you to the members who brought food and drinks to share which was much appreciated, and special thanks to the St Kilda Sports Club for their support as always 🙏

Next month in September, our guest speaker is Kelly Brennan from Lake Alive (a local group focused on protecting and improving the health, flora, and fauna of Albert Park Lake).

An excellent Probus outing to the Geelong Art Gallery today to see the Impressionists Exhibition. Totally recommend 👏👏👏 And a delicious lunch at Caruggi afterwards. And we were lucky to miss the rain all day 🙏🙏🙏

A very enjoyable happy hour at Iddy Biddy last Thursday evening. A great catchup over a w**e or two with a couple of members staying on to enjoy the Thursday night parma/schnitzel special of $27 for a massive plate of food. Doggie bags available if you can’t finish it. Thoroughly recommend Iddy Biddy for delicious food, great prices and excellent service.

A very engaging, educational and humorous presentation by our guest speaker this morning - Professor Kate Burridge on the English language and linguistics. Fantastic turnout from members and guests who thoroughly enjoyed the history of the English language and where we are potentially heading 🤔

Monthly meetings from 10am on the second Wednesday of each month with our speaker generally presenting from 10:45am.

Please note our speaker next month on August 12 will be from 10am as he has to leave early.

A very enjoyable and relaxing evening at Lion & Wombat yesterday for Happy Hour drinks. The $8 Sangiovese was very nice tho some moved onto Shiraz later in the evening. Excellent service from the staff and very pleasantly surprised to get 25% discount off our bill at the end of the night (thanks to John and his fifth booking here being a member). Great to have Rosemary be able to attend and we look forward to seeing her back at the club meeting next week. Lots of jokes and laughter and a couple of members wandered down to the newly re-opened Walrus afterwards to check it out 🍷

A group of us met up at the Bowlo for the opening night of the St Kilda Blues Festival, where we saw Ezra Lee and his Boogie Woogie Band. They were awesome! We stayed to hear a bit more music, before deciding we were hungry. So we wandered down Fitzroy St and had delicious food and cocktails at La Bodega. That was followed by a walk along the Esplanade before everyone headed home. It was a beautiful night to be wandering around St Kilda. There is more free blues on Saturday and Sunday. If you're free, you should check it out!

A very enjoyable afternoon at Ellora (1 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda) for happy hour yesterday afternoon. A beautiful view and sunny weather make for a relaxing time chatting to fellow members. Always looking for new places to try so if you see any venues in the hood with happy hour, let us know so we can check them out.
