Voice at the Table

Voice at the Table We provide practical information to ensure people with a cognitive disability have a real and equal Voice At the Table.

We offer free training sessions, starting again in March 2026. Voice at The Table (VATT) is a project of AMIDA. We advocate for an inclusive and accessible society through the way we work, and our training and resources. All our training and resources are co created by staff with and without cognitive disability. The VATT Graduate Training is for people with a cognitive disability wanting to learn

about
- their rights,
- how to speak up to make change
- the Self Advocacy movement

The Inclusion Training builds capacity in:
- government departments (Local, State and Federal)
- service providers
- community oranisations
- mainstream organisations
to remove the barriers for people with cognitive disability sitting on committees, advisory and working groups. The Monthly Meetup is a peer led group in which VATT Graduates support each other in their self advocacy journey. VATT Chat is both a podcast and a 3CR radio show, getting the living experience of people with a cognitive disability out to the world.

VSAN CAMPAIGN 2026 - Keep Self Advocacy Alive – Fund Our Future!
Self advocacy groups give a voice to the people most left out of government decisions.
People with intellectual disability, acquired brain injury and complex communication needs are the people’s voices who are most often ignored.
Self advocacy groups change that.
The Government says they want to hear from people with disability – do they really?
The Government has not made a commitment to fund self advocacy groups in Foundational Supports.
And there is no backup plan for groups that might miss out on the next grant round.
Without secure funding, self advocacy groups will close. Everyone will lose direct access to these expert voices of people with disability.
We need the Government to do 2 things:
1. commit to funding self advocacy groups in Foundational Supports, in a way that works for us, and tell us when this will happen.
2. commit to a backup plan for any group that misses out on the next grant round, so no group is left without funding.
We are not asking for much, we are just asking for our voices to be heard.
Watch this space - ways to work together coming soon!
