A great conversation on renting on on Life Matters, speaking with two women who have rented their whole lives, one in her 80's and one in her 50's. They speak really well about the impact of having no security of tenure, high rents and low quality housing. Well done for speaking up! And great to hear public housing (as well as stronger protection for private renters) being proposed by the and picked up in the media.

Why are older people needing care at home being fed to an algorithmic machine? Why does the government think it's acceptable to trust an opaque computer system to make decisions rather than listening to health care professionals or older people themselves?

"Don't be ashamed of your situation," says Vera, who tells her story of finding herself homeless in later life, a not uncommon story for many women following divorce, illness or job loss. Fantastic to see the issue of older women's homelessness in the spotlight

Vera struggled to survive after spending her savings on rent.

Did you ever feel like someone was playing snakes and ladders with your life? It's great to see Housing Older Women’s Support Service getting itself established to provide another ladder to women in Queensland.

Get financial assistance? Move forward. Feeling unsafe? Back you go. For older women facing housing insecurity, navigating the ups and downs can be like a game of snakes and ladders.
