On 25 and 26 August 2026, Muslim Legal Network President Jazeer Nijamudeen and Treasurer Sam Bektas represented MLN at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Oceania Regional Partnership Consultation with Muslim Communities, held in Fiji.
The consultation brought together Muslim community leaders and IsDB regional executives to examine the challenges facing minority Muslim communities across Oceania and consider practical steps to strengthen community institutions, expand economic opportunity and promote regional cooperation.
Rising Islamophobia, strengthening civic participation and improving pathways to economic opportunity and development were among the important themes discussed. The conversations highlighted the value of strong community institutions, institutional capacity and sustained cooperation between professionals, community organisations and regional development partners.
MLN’s participation reflects its commitment as an Australian professional legal network to contributing to regional conversations about access to justice, community wellbeing and sustainable institutional development.
Our delegation shared MLN’s experience and priorities, learned from organisations working across the region, and explored opportunities for initiatives that respond to the legal, economic and institutional needs of minority Muslim communities.
We thank the Islamic Development Bank for convening this valuable consultation and extend our sincere appreciation to the Fiji Muslim League for its generous hospitality and for hosting the gathering during its remarkable centenary year, marking 100 years of service to Fiji’s Muslim community.
MLN looks forward to building on the relationships and shared insights developed through the consultation.
